In the last couple of days I have read a number of posts on this site and others with people complaining about families out sledding and driving slow, also about people doing dangerous things to get by them such as tapping snow flaps and roostering people as they pass. Now I am not trying to start an argument or defend any one group or individual. The trails are for all of us, young, old, big, tall, fat, small, male, female, you get my drift. It is very important to keep track of your surroundings when riding, especially if you are with a group and especially with inexperienced riders, the trail boss or leader really needs to pay extra attention so that you do not hold faster groups or riders up. But also faster groups and riders need to show some patience and restraint when approaching other groups. Remember we all started some time and we all were rookies at one time. We all have to look out for each other because we are all snowmobilers, and when we get after each other we just look like dumb snowmobilers and that is what gives us a bad name. Be smart, be safe, and have fun, that is what it is all about.

oh boy, here we go again. you couldnt have put this in one of the existing threads about this subject?
I spent the weekend riding and I was really glad that the first sled I encountered was a dad, and what appeared to be a 2 or 3 year old in his lap, coming towards me on the trail.. I thought, how cool! It stuck in my head that they could be around every corner and it slowed me down for the entire weekend.. The trails are for everyone and every style of riding. Respect each other!!

I've been on very few trails in my 42 snowmobile years life - UP and Lower - so I dont know, but the picture I see (read) on here is that the trails are congested, esp peak days wk-ends and everyone trying to jockey around passing groups one sled at a time and all the frustration of to fast or to slow or hogging ,,,
Wouldnt another option be pull over for 5 mins and create a gap or if its that crowded, slow down and get in line so to speak, cause just like on a crowded South bound road on a Sun nite whats the point of passing only to catch up to the next one and the next one. I'd be frazzeled instead of enjoying.

The trails are for ALL of us and we all need to respect that. Like someone posted earlier, we all started sometime and I, as a father of two little ones, can't wait to get them out there with me someday.

I have read and reread most posts on here its hard to keep quiet some times .. Heres the thing Ok you are driving your car on a 2 laner Do you Bob and wieve from left to right taking up the whole road ?? I think not !! Then why do you do it on the trail ?? Just like driving a car same situation !! if you are going slow and taking up the whole trail (( Trail HOG !! )) you need to go to Snowmobile Safty Class In My opinion .. Now Ive Been Sledding since age 5 by my self im 47 now and safty coarse under my belt 29 years ago .. as far as i know same rules still apply and nothing really changed in all these years .. out there you call me rickety racer ect ect -- are you kidding !! I can Handel My sled Better than most people out there and DRIVE BY THE RULES OF THE ROAD .. Unlike Some Goof Balls Out there They Come Into Corners Swinging Wide-- Drifting-- Right Down the Middle of the trail Comming at Super Sonic Speeds NOT IN CONTROLL of there toys And Not a Care In the World I own The Trail I payed For my Sticker I own It I can Do or Go where I want .. WAKE UP !! I myself Am Getting Scared going riding witch is sad Ive seen many stupid things on the trail And I would Say 60% of it is lack of experance or respect for land or others .. Yes i belong to a club we strive for ZERO TOLLARANCE riding .. Hint Hint .. Also Can a person really controll the spray out from the flap of your sled Heck No !! This isnt like back 10 to 20 years ago when you had only 8 inches of travel under the sled and the flap was across the entire machine .. 10-15 inches of travel will do that DUH !! the flaps are narrow .. yup that person can slow down though so it doesnt spray though .. ok enjoy Zero Tollarance is the best way And Support Snowmobile Safty Classes Enjoy Snowbullet Out !!
Agreed. It was a joy to take my 3 year old sledding with me this season. Yes, it slowed me down and I could not enjoy "pitstops" as well but, he had a great experience. And, I had other times to enjoy without him. In fact, last Thursday 2 sledders were approaching my wife and I. When they saw our young one in front of me on my sled they pullede to the side and waved as we past.

Got to experience the father/son moment for the first time last Friday. My oldest boy is 12 and is thrilled he finally gets to run his own sled. Just the 2 of us in the morning-light traffic, and the trails were great. We stopped at an intersection, pulled our helmets off, and chatted about sled related safety (what to do and not to do etc...). Nothing like frist hand experience to learn the ropes. He did a fantastic job. Stayed to the right, rode within his abilities, and looked both ways twice at every crossing. Even pulled up to the gas pumps on bare ground like a veteran (I wanted to do that for him, but he insisted he could handle it). Did not have to correct him one time. It was a morning both he and I will remember for the rest of our lives. It certainly wasn't the quantity of the ride (we only put on about 70 miles), but the quality bonding time was better than any other ride I've been on in my life. A great day to say the least!!
Thanks for this thread. Perhaps it is time this offseason for the moderators to re-organize the discussion board - add a new category for people pissed off at other riders, groomers, the sun, global warming and the jet stream. It would be nice to just have a board focused more on some of the positive things about snowmobiling again.
