Volcano

What is the status of the volcano in the background and how far do you live and work from it? Keep in mind that when it goes the volcanic mudflow that may head your way can be at 100 degrees C, carrying rocks the size of buses and can move in excess of 100 kph. I doubt there is any kind of early warning system in Mexico.

Pack some heat, do you need a license?

Sorry, shootin' irons are illiggal [sic] in Mexico!
Feel free to be the one to 'splain that to the drug cartels! :)

As the NRA says: "If you make guns illegal, only the outlaws will have guns!

I live maybe 20 miles away from the volcanoe in the picture and work about 30 miles away. This one is still active, a brief history is below. The pics where I am on top of the volcanoe are from one of the other surrounding volcanoes. In total there are 3 vocanoes within about 25 miles the one being active still.

Popocatepetl is one of the most violent volcanoes in Mexico, having had more than 20 major eruptions since the arrival of the Spanish in 1519. A major eruption occurred in 1947 to begin this cycle of activity. Then, on December 21, 1994, the volcano spewed gas and ash which was carried as far as 25 km (16 mi) away by prevailing winds. The activity prompted the evacuation of nearby towns and scientists to begin monitoring for an eruption. In December 2000, tens of thousands of people were evacuated by the government based on the warnings of scientists. The volcano then made its largest display in 1200 years.
