Ski Doo reveals new rear suspension for 2012

You mean it's not as pretty as the pro ride, or you reverse engineered it from a single picture and determined that it won't ride as well as the pro ride?

I really don't think the pro ride looks good, at least the rear suspension. Reverse engineering :) I will hold my tail between my legs if I'm wrong.

Thanks for posting it, I have not been on DT too much lately. I'm skeptical, a lot of vids & charts & graphs & promotion. The 1st year is a risk . I just as soon wait until year 2 and see what BRP does with the XP chassis ( they need to do something ). I kind of favor the old REV for our riding needs. It does look impressive but I have been a consumer guinea pig too many times for the sled mans... After 18 years of spending my money to test NEW Premium Performance technology, I'm starting to catch on. Call me dumb but I'll let someone else test products with their money.

Not much of a Doo person, but you have to hand it to Doo for tackling this one. Suspensions have been pretty darn good over the last 6 or 7 years, so jumping in there to actually improve adjustments instead of just making it cheaper....is research and development that is over the top these days with costs rising fast and corners cut everywhere.

This looks like a very nice suspension, and the youtube demonstration is a good one.

Anyone see this video on a prototype suspension a few years back?

As mjkaliszak states, I'd sit back and see how the new design plays out as there most likely will be some changes, like the Polaris Rush rear skid, there were some tweaks to improve it for MY2011.

The new Doo rear suspension looks to collect & hold snow, more complicated and surely more costly for repairs.

May be time for Doo to set up some demo rides in '12?

It's great to see Ski Doo reacting to a Polaris move for a change! I'm not convinced on this suspension from Doo, but time will tell. Notice how their ad states "inside the tunnel", a direct reaction to the Rush.

Anyone ever lifted one of those Rush rear ends up off the ground? I'm going to guess not to many have....... They are about as heavy as the front.

Not sure about the weight, but as the rear grab bar/bumper is low, it does take more effort than on a conventional sled to raise it by hand.

I agree on waiting, most things from Ski Doo (Rev, XP, E-tec) prove to be cobbled together copies of the other manufactures products…

it sucks to lift up, it's not that it's so heavy, but when you lift it up, you're compressing the suspension while lifting it so it's harder to lift up.

Their new rear suspension if coupled with their new 130 HP 4 stroke motor interests me alot. Can't wait to see what comes out..I only wish their 4 stroke motors didn't sound like lawn mowers...

Just curious what the REV was copied off of??? And the E-tec???

I was trying to be facetious…pun was intended… my opinion on sled R & D, there is Ski Doo and then the other three are somewhere way after that, over the last eight years every sled manufacturer has been chasing BRP. Of course this is just my opinion…lol

I can agree with your opinion. I would say that Cat's batteryless EFI was good R&D and advanced technology into the industry.

XP Chassis Question

Just curious what issues you have with the XP vs. the REV chassis and what type of riding you do. I have more seat time on the XP than the REV(not a ton on either though) and liked the XP better on trail but had a tough time getting the XP to "carve" off trail. Seems like the XP summit isn't up to the steep and deep like the RMK's and Cats from what I read but I don't plan on mountain riding when I upgrade sleds but would like something that I can boondock and trailride. Renegade backcountry seems about right or even the plain 'gade.

Unfortunately, i sold my XP after 2 seasons. 5400 miles. Just wasn't for me, didn't make much of a " corner burner " even with all my mods. I did get it to handle maybe at " baby corner burner status " but it was no match for fine tuning the suspension compared to the other manu's. Then the chassis couldn't take a hit, we seem to be rough on stuff around here. I shouldn't have to buy all kinds of aftermarket accesories to support the chassis ( bracing ) . It was fast , of course, but nothing like the rev, poo IQ race, or AC F for tuning the sled to "stick it " in the turns ( most important for me ). I did like the 2011 600 TNT , it seemed to be lighter and have less ski lift ( due to torque I'm sure ) but i still had to ride it super agressively to not miss a turn or scrub all kinds of speed ( prior turn entry ). It just didn't have the legs in the deeper unpacked stuff. Just my experience, I could ramble on but my other 3 sleds took the same kind of beating and performed better.
