Sled won't start

dont think u can safely jump a sled from a car..i think u can blow ur electronics

Yep. That's the reason that you use a 1 amp mini charger, and a very small battery. Not good to rapid charge any dead battery of any size. Most "tech" chargers today, sense the charge, and start the charge slow, and then increase the rate of charging.

Sorry for the delayed response everyone. I've been traveling and have attempted to log into this thread to reply via my cell phone, but it was a major PITA.

My son actually got the sled started without me. I asked him what he did differently to get it started - nothing! He followed the same, simple starting procedures I followed...but for some reason it worked for him. Anyway, he put a trickle charger on it for a few days just to be safe so hopefully we're set for a while. I've got some time off coming up soon so I'll take it to the local dealer to have them check the battery out to be safe.

We hoped to take the sleds out this last Sunday but it was -20 or -25F (actual temp before wind chills kicked in) so we played it safe and watched football instead. Thanks again to everyone for your advice.

12v is 12v. Wont hurt it to jump off any sized battery thats 12v. Car, truck, semi, etc.

These new Ski-Doos are so darn complicated.
Have to ask, what made you decide to buy a Ski-Doo?
Batteries last at least 4 years, why haven't you called your dealer for service after plunking down many $1000's of dollars on 2 new sleds...are you new to this planet?,...I am sure if your new car didn't start when you got it home , you wouldn't seek out a car website for an answer,...right?....seriously, you were bright enough to earn the cash for $ 20,000+++ worth a new toys...what has your dealership said to do?

4 years lol Snowbuddy just put a new battery in the 05 last year and the 08 checked out this year 09 skidoo mounted sideways is still going strong...

No Lenny, that's the truth. Not many of the newer Doos have pull ropes. I couldn't believe it, but it's been that way at least 3-4 years now.

Yep my 2010 gadeX has no pull start. It's actually dead as we speak in my garage up north, it wouldn't start the last day, last season. I didn't auto summarize it cuz I couldn't start it and didn't bother wrapping the emergency rope around clutch. I'll be up New Years and just plan on dropping it off at Timberline for Mark and Marlin, I think it's just the electric start switch. It's annoying but I bet it would start with emergency rope , I just didn't try was in a hurry . Maybe I'll just get a new sled😜

Why? Amps are drawn, not pushed. The sled will draw the amperage it needs to start.

How do they rate battery chargers? Amps? Why do they tell you to use a very low amp charger, such as a 1.0 amp, on your ATV, Bike, Snowmobile, ect? There should be a instruction sheet with every new powersports battery showing you how to charge it, for how long, and at what rate of charging to use. 12 volt battery chargers come in many different charging capacities, .25, .5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 5, 10 amp, and on up. Depends on the size of the battery. I watched a guy jump a bike with car. His bike battery blew up like a bomb went off. But to each his own.

So now we are changing the subject to "charging" batteries?
Because I was talking about jumpstarting a dead battery.

2 very different things.
