Small Town Insults!

Difficult to understand an individual that comes into small town establishment & proceeds to insult every local in the place? Text & cell calls went out immediately after you opened your big yap & everyone was told to keep a lid on it & stand down don't take a drunken fool seriously. Small town folks are very clever & subtle in their methods as I'm sure you will soon discover. It pays to be nice even if you don't like the town others do that live there.

Last year in trout lake we had a guy come in way to drunk to be on a sled and open his mouth and insult everyone there I was not born there but I consider my self a local as I've been going there since I was born and have spent almost every birthday there. But he went on insulting and talking very loudly as to how the town is a p.o.s when it comes to being friendly and open to out siders aka snowmobiles well I don't take that lightly because trout lake is a very very friendly town. I was very mad along with everyone else we ignored him but he kept on goin he ended up getting kicked out and cops were called and he had a nice ride to lock up I'm sure. The moral of the story ignore them and let the proper authorities take care of the issue

Care to elaborate? Inquiring minds want to know.:)

Older drunk guy calling locals inbreds does not go over well when young bucks in their house with girlfrends. Calling a local biz man an Ahole for no reason other than an humorous advertisement is unreasonable & foolish. On top of that the biz mans' son & daughter were there & text went out "this guy is talking **** about Dad". Dad was sleeping & short distance away text went to the Mom had the Dad known it would not have been good does not take crap from anyone. My advise was leave go to another bar before young buck jacks this guy in the face & trouble for everyone. They all left & guy still shooting his mouth off that he would buy the town & remodel with a match. Heard later he was bitching about his bar bill but can buy the town...what a fool.lol

No rope necessary this guy already hung himself & very similar to modman440 experience in trout lake. If I had been there I would have engaged the guy in an intelligent way sat down & drawn him out discussed his objections made him an offer he could not refuse. I find these loudmouths somewhat entertaining but young bucks that stay or return to small towns have a lot of pride regarding their area & get defensive of resources & people. To me if this guy can not see the forest thru the trees then he missed what Phelps has to offer. Phelps is a huge land mass & very small downtown many resorts & countless lakes & Nicolet National Forest everywhere with hilly, rolling snowmobile trails that are very well groomed. Locals don't have much not a lot of opportunity here but what little they do have they will share with any decent person. This guy will find it difficult to get anything done around here with his attitude dug a huge hole in the social circles of trades & craftsmen that had to listen to his tirade. He has no idea the damage he inflicted upon himself but he will find out soon no one going to work for him he is an outcast now. Very dumb person in the way of small towns to say the least.lol

I always try to befriend people in the small towns we stop in. Of course I don't drink so that may be a plus.
I only ran into 1 small town several years ago in which I had an issue. It was either Naganee or Ishpeming. We got off the trail to get gas, 3 of us, 1 was my 7yr son at the time, he couldn't even touch the running boards with his boots. Any-whooo, the trail dumps you off into a concrete intersection, a parking lot, and a sidewalk. It happened to be next to some funeral home, we are looking around like ( WTH ) direction do we go ??? there was the funeral home owner plowing is lot and when my son tried to go forward down the sidewalk, he blocked him with his truck, then I directed my son to go down the street ( side ) and the a hole backed up and blocked him again ????? LET me tell you something that small town hospitality goes both ways ! That was going to be a mess, should I have turned into my " alter ego " aka " Mr Hyde, .... turned out to be a screaming match, me & the funeral home guy, and I will say, I thought about turning that altercation into a full blown battle, I'm sure I could have inflicted significant damage quickly, and high tailed it out of there. I'm sure of it.

Should that senario played out with me and 2 budds and not my son, things would have been different. Just not the example you want to leave your young son with as an example of behavior when growing up.

I just wanted to post this story, I remembered it for 9 yrs.
I'm just a simple little guy, the kind you don't see coming. Threaten my family and .... well.... everything can turn into chaos.

That would be my " vent " for the day, I have been resenting that event for some time !

We never have went back, I have boycotted all businesses in those 2 towns, and called it good.

It does go both ways for sure, my uncle is on town board for trout lake and out biggest issue is dealing with non locals that get to drunk on a sled or come in toasted since we don't have a police station and it normally takes highway or dnr a while to get there. It can be very hard to deal with them but one think u wont find in trout lake is a rude local!!! You gotta push a lot of buttons to piss someone off but 9 times outa 10 they will kill you with kindness it's been that way ever since I can remember. Bars gas stations stores they all pretty much rely on snowmobilers and tourists and they are almost always very grateful for the business that comes in! Mjkaliszak I believe you said it was 9 years ago that your exsperienc happened???? Give it another try don't let one bad apple ruin it for you. Everyone has bad days maybe he was. I'm not gonna say its excusable being it was your 7 yr old son but try ridin there again, I've been there multiple times and I've always had a good time it's a nice little town.

Modman out !!
