Smoking Ban?? Update??

I don't want to get into any debate on smoking or non-smoking but thought I would throw this observation out that I noticed this Friday. My wife and I stopped into a small tavern Friday afternoon, after doing some errands, for a couple cold ones. This tavern is strickly a bar not a restuarant (sp). There were a number of vehicles parked in front but when we walked in, the bar was empty. The bartender quickly came in to serve us but all the patrons were outside smoking, including the bartender before we arrived. There were about 10 people outside. Thought it was kinda funny.

Nice! At the club I hang out a bit they had this cardboard placards made up to set over your drink. They say " This is not a vacant seat, occupant is outside smoking". I think this kinda sucks, but it does make sense since the person has chosen (by law) to go outside for a smoke. And yes the bartender is out there with them. Serving myself has become very cost effective. So there are additional benefits for some of us non smokers.

I have to say that this discussion has been very informative and for the most part kept very calm. It wasnt a bunch of 2 year olds calling each other names and for that I am thankfull. I was very one sided until I read this thread and now I can atleast say I understand both sides, there were some good reasonable explinations that made me see the other side to the whole smoking ban.
I still feel that if I walk into a bar that allows smoking I will know the second I walk in and if I dont like it, I can walk right back out. I am not too good to do that. I also look at someone drinking and getting behind the wheel as wrong too, and when I am driving down the road/trail I may not know that person is drunk untill he crosses the center line and kills me. This situation is very possibly unavoidable on my part. So the response is then dont drive or ride a snowmobile/car or take the chance when you do. Why is this so wrong when someone walks into a smoking establishment, atleast they know what they are walking into.
This smoking ban doesnt affect me but at the same time I DO beleive that the government is getting a little carried away with some laws. Just as I have listened to how "smokers have no common courtesy" I have seen several interveiws with bar ownwers that say they like the law because the government is taking the heat for the smoking ban and they didnt want smoking in their establishment but was affraid that if they (as the bussiness owner) banned smoking then all there bussiness would go down the road to a establishment that allows smoking. Well grow a set of ba--s and stand up for what you beleive in, stop letting someone else take the heat for what your not man enough to stand up for. Even though the ban doesnt affect me I will NOT enter a bussiness that admitted to not banning smoking on there own even though they dont want smoking in there establishment. Just my opinion and to each there own. Now lets get the government to pass a law that we will get 6 foot of snow for 6 months out of the year and lets ride.

whats next no drinking inside of a bar or restrurant as a underage become tramaized?All of the bars around here are hurting real bad by the no smoking,myself i grab a 30pack for the same price as a 12pack at the bar and enjoy my smoke and beer.
I cant say as I blame you Hemi, its just too bad the bar owners have to suffer the lost money due to the governments decision. Who knows what they will ban next.

True, but if you quit drinking then there isnt much need for bars anyway then right?
