Snowmobile insurance

Does anyone know of an inexpensive stand alone insurance carrier for liability only insurance for snowmobiles? Have always extended coverage from our homeowners but they no longer do. We just carry liability and only ride approx. 14 days per year so don't want to pay too much.

Time to shop for a new homeowners policy?

Sounds like they don't really want your business. Stand alone policies are usually more expensive than a combo with homeowners.

I would shop the homeowners again and get a price including seasonal coverages of the sleds which include both liability and collision. You will probably find a policy cheaper than the one you have now without the coverages.

Try progressive, AutoOwners, INA, Farmers, and State Farm...even Allstate.

Someone will do the coverages for you, I am sure.

Actually I am changing homeowners ins but the new company does not cover either! I have a progressive quote and also AmFam ..who also won't cover under our cabin policy but will do a stand alone. wow, used to cover them both for like $40 per year!

Keep looking. You need compare with all fringe coverages in total. Going with a bit cheaper company who doesn't do the extended coverages rewards that company for not covering and of course provide a "cheaper" price, where other companies that factor in extended coverage must absorb losses without the added premiums.

Keep looking....before you buy and take into account the big picture.

One must shop around, I have had several carriers over the years with vastly different rates for the same machines, I currently use a Met Life agent out of McHenry IL, it is a stand alone policy that covers 2 sleds and the trailer with better than the minimum required coverage and a modest deductible with year round protection for about $110/yr for both. BTW, they also offered very competitive rates on all of my other needs and I have started to transfer my policies over. My new agent is a long time snowmobiler so that helps.

I have progressive on my sled only. Seems cheap enough to me. You said you wanted liability only, but I add other coverages when I ride and take them off when I don't.

I don't know if you have access to Frankenmuth Mutual Insurance Co. or not, but, under their Homeowners program you can get Liability only for $61.00 for ALL owned units, whether you have 1 or 5, $61.00.-Mezz ALL owned units, including ATV'S & UTV's = $61.00 for ALL @ $300,000.

You must have the same agent as me...his name is Andrew? If so...great guy to deal with. I've had him for years now and when I thought I could do better elsewhere...he made it right and adjusted!

x2 on Frankenmuth they are a great company and easy to deal with. A couple years back I had just bought the wife a new sled and a couple days later my garage roof caved in and it did a number on her new sled they totaled it and with no hassle got her a new sled.

Curious what kind of liability limits (and other coverage) people have on their sleds.

My previous insurance co. wrote the same coverages as I had for my auto policy, but not sure if I would really need those higher limits for the sled?

State Farm has always had the best deals. Every couple of years I shop around and nobody can ever touch their rates. On a 2012 XF800 Sno Pro with a 500 deductible I pay about 198 a year.

I am finding sled insurance is all over the spectrum (kinda like car ins.). Snowbound83, in lower MI, State Farm is the highest of high for just about coverage, same goes for Allstate. Not sure how any of it works.
I tell you one thing, I would not insure myself on a mountain sled for full coverage for $350 per year at replacement value. Mayhem is out there!!!
