So a little late summer project

So I didn’t want to hijack pclarks thread I figured I would start my own. Started clearing area in early July mostly by myself on chainsaw with wife and neighbor in tractor at times. Building a 40x64x16 storage shed no concrete at this time maybe later. Took my time with tree clearing knowing I wouldn’t be starting on building until mid August.

IMG_5632.jpeg IMG_5633.jpeg Second week of August had a friend also an excavator come and pull all tree stumps and level sight no real pictures of that but probably 40-50 maples so have fire wood for next 5 or so years. Will try to post pic of wood pile later. Started working on barn on August 19th first laid it out then digging holes. Dug half with my tractor took day and a half then excavator buddy showed up had other half done in an hour and a half.

Jim, I love it when a good project comes together! Were those Cisco Chain perch? I remember way back in the 80’s we used to catch boatloads of nice perch in Cisco and Thousand Island lakes.

IMG_8689.jpeg IMG_8692.jpeg IMG_8696.jpeg IMG_8703.jpeg Took a couple days to get all the side wall purlins up and only took a day for all trusses. Now truss purlins took a little longer. And yes same friend has tele-handler which really helps

IMG_5713.jpeg IMG_5714.jpeg IMG_5715.jpeg Some pictures of piles of trees I had to take out just to get the project started. Probably somewhere between half and full semi load if piled good.

Last 2 pics to get me to this point. This all was done by September 13 because then wife and I went on vacation for our anniversary so put everything on hold. Hopefully will have it done my end of this week coming. Both side walls including fascia and soffit done will be starting on end walls tomorrow. Oh ya that lift in the picture saved a week or two if doing it off ladders. IMG_5717.jpeg IMG_5718.jpeg

Jim, you can never have enough firewood. Interesting that you have the walls up before getting the roof on.

Jim that’s excellent that you have all that firewood to cure and split. Only time I ran out of wood was during the LP shortage burned everything by Spring!

I guess that comment sounds a little strange but my thought process is you have the walls up so to speak, maybe a sheet metal building requires the sheet metal be up before adding the roofing. I’m no expert but just like to be dried in as soon as possible. But, with the lack of rain all is good!

Nice batch of fish!

If this is a little project, I'm kind of wondering what your big projects look like. I have to admit I'm a little envious of all the space you will have in there. Looking forward to future updates.

Thanks, I have done a couple others on the homestead maybe not quite as big 🥴 but way more complicated.

Not really sure if it makes a difference if wall or roof metal goes on first but my carpenter friend helping figured get all the wall metal on first will sturdy up the structure before going on the roof. But then again I don’t think he is that fond of being on a 16’ high roof that moves around that much. 🤣
