14.5 in osseo and still falling. I agree with you on the grooming renegade they just seem to be waiting to long. I disagree on the dry snow this stuff is wet. My pants are soaked and I have to use the manure bucket on our S185 extra weights Bobcat, because it can't push the snow bucket it weighs so much. If they would just groom the trails would easily be rated very good, but I have yet to see the groomer.

We're starting to consider if we need to act like we're in the UP and clean off some of the roofs on the buildings.

Thanks so much WorkHardPlayHard! I hope you don't encounter any kind of roof problems! A real concern with livestock buildings. Hang in there we're really liking what's been said here on this area!

Unfortunately a barn went down over by Augusta resulting in the loss of about 70 cows. That's the bad thing when we get snow like this is it affects other things too. Eau Claire county trails east of Interstate 94 are now groomed let the fun begin!

If you are looking to head this way Osseo has options. The Super 8 has the pool and nice rooms, but you will have to cross more roads to get to it. I don't know if there is a back way in, but can check. The other option is the Osseo Inn. No pool, the rooms are comfortable but very dated. The two big plusses are the Bar and grill attached to the property and direct trail access to the Buffalo River Trail. Same side of street is a Taco John's and a Subway. Opposite side McDonald's and fuel. Both have decent sized parking lots.

Just shooting you some ideas. Neither place is the Ritz, but both are comfortable.

The great thing about Osseo is the Buffalo River Trail. One end is Clark county. The South side accesses Jackson, Trempeauleau, to Buffalo. The North side easy accessibility to Pepin, Dunn, Eau Claire, and even Chippewa county's without having to ride the same trail over and over again.

Sad to hear of the loss of the cows. Bad, bad deal for sure. My family really feels for the small dairy farmers, and their plight to survive! Thanks for all your info, we will be heading your way as soon as the wives are able to fend for themselves. Both have some minor medical side issues. We will base at Osseo, and backpack from there all directions are on the list! I'll touch base with you. Stay safe, and good luck with the farm operations! I farm too, but no livestock anymore.

We have the dairy and the crops, and by the way as I was milking at midnight last night I remembered I forgot about one of the best eating establishments in Osseo on the west end of town directly off the trail is Northwoods Brewery. Its kind of like Outback Steakhouse or Texas roadhouse. A little pricier that some places, but the steaks make up for it.

Got it, thanks! We are about 40 down here today so trying to thaw everything out from the 2 ice events we've had this week. Doors a bitch when froze shut! Don't work to hard, save some for play!

I rode the Pigeon Falls, Osseo, Whitehall area over to Arcadia to Pragg in Buffalo County up to Mondovi on Sunday.....Trails were in poor to fair condition. The Whitehall area had recently groomed on the weekend but they looked like they were the only ones that groomed....Oh and the grade in Mondovi was groomed late Sunday when I went through. When I say that, I mean all trails had been groomed since the big snowfall but very suspect if many trails had been groomed more than once. I know there was some traffic on the weekend but if they groomed say Thursday or Friday and left it until this week to groom again....trails will be poor, which they were on Sunday. Hopefully they keep up the trails because it's a beautiful area to go sledding. My buddy rode this area this weekend and ran into the same conditions as stated above. Others I talked to along the trail on Sunday said the trails were very rough but ...hey they are open! There were better trail conditions in Clark, Wood and Jackson Counties this weekend. Except Jackson had issues with UTV's tearing up trails so they just banned them for the rest of the season in Jackson County!!

From Jackson County this morning:

"After careful consideration and discussion with internal staff and law enforcement, we have decided to suspend the use of UTV's for the remainder of the season. The damage done over the weekend is too dangerous to the other users of the trail, and grooming the trails is pointless. We will be permanently reevaluating use of UTVs in the winter which may require banning their use when trails are snow covered."

Perhaps someone finally got it? Snowmobiles trying to ride a trail that is dangerous due to it's conditions. It took way to dang long to come to realizing this! Until they permanently ban all wheeled vehicles on snowmobile trails, we will stay away from that area. No riding, no stopping there, no $$$ spent there! As I said before, we don't spend our time, and $$$ on mashed potato trails. And we don't pay for a trail permit in Wis to encounter trails as such! I've had several discussions with the Wis Snowmobile Association about this very issue for some years now. I have also voiced my concerns with the Wis DNR also. The state of Wis is one of the very best places to snowmobile when they have good snow, but this ATV/UTV issue makes it much easier to go else where to ride where they don't have this problem.
