Specs: Polaris Blue vs. Sea and Snow

I have ocean front property in Arizona to sell anyone who would sign a piece of paper from a dealer about what oil they are going to use.

Some people are a couple of cans short of a 6 pack. The reason anyone would sign something like that are ignorance, high pressure poor sales tactics, and fear.

Just like I'm sure that Polaris sells a lot of oil by printing in their manual that Polaris Blue is the correct oil and that the warranty is void if that's not used. Lame

Polaris will void your warranty

http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0138-auto-warranties-routine-maintenance

“Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, the warranty cannot be conditioned to a specific brand of parts, services or vehicle modifications unless those parts or services are provided free of charge.”

Note - The law applies to ALL consumer warranties, not just autos.

I think fuel quality has way more to do with engine longevity than oil does.

That being said, Im sure that some of the factory brand or high end aftermarket oils do make a bit more power than the $10 oil.

So really I think its more of a performance question than anything else. If you need the extra power then by all means spend the money. But if youre just a trail rider who is looking to shave some cost off of your rides maybe the cheaper oil will work for you.

About 7yrs ago I was running Amsoil in my 92 Indy 488 fan and had to run it over to dealership when it started running real bad. The dealership did compression checks and the cylinders were 70's psi. It ended up being the cdi box. They ordered a new one and we continued to ride for the next couple days. I had to buy more oil and picked up the Poo oil.
When I returned to the dealership a few days later for the cdi box, they ran a compression test again. Both cylinders were over 110psi per cylinder. I can only attribute it to the Poo oil.

I don't think saving a couple of dollars on oil is worth the possible problems. The cost of oil is such a small percentage of the actual cost of the sport. Why take the chance of using anything but what the manufacturer recommends? I'm sure that other top shelf oils work fine, but most of them (klotz, amsoil, etc.) are not cheap either. Cheap oil doesn't save you anything in the long run. IMHO

U guys need to stop drinking the oem Kool aid. hundreds of guys on the forums run the sea and snow have for yrs with 0 issues . I have run it for well over 10 yrs. I also premixed it in my old drag sled a zr900/1010 with spray with high comp heads etc etc sea and snow mixed with c16 no oil related issues spun the crank out of index 1 time melted holes in the top of the pistons but no oil issues . run what u want spend what u want but just because some one is not asking u to grab your ankles for a good time dose not mean what they are selling is a bad untested product.

This in and of itself says it all.

There was some people I know giving me **** about getting the 'cheap' oil today. I just said; with the money I'm saving I can buy more plugs, belt, trail permit, etc.

I see a lot of the guys stating that they turn up the oil pump output on the sled to alleviate bearing failure, piston seizures, and peace of mind knowing that its cheaper to replace plugs than a top end/bottom rebuild. So with that said, a little more cheap oil in the case won't hurt a dang thing within reason. I say run what ya brung. Bring on more snow.

I did buy a 6 pack of stihl oil this yr . only because they gave me a extra yr of warranty on my blower if I bought the 6 pack of 1gal mix oil. still have not used any of it but 17bucks for the warranty did not seem bad for a $500 blower .

Yep, according to some on here, I better run Mopar oil in my ram 2500, my chrysler 200, my wife's 200, my daughters intrepid. Plus, now I have to go buy Husqvarna oil for my riding lawnmower, Husqvarna 2 stroke oil for my chain saw, Stihl two stroke oil for my Stihl chainsaw, wait, crap, I have a Stihl leaf blower too, can I run the same oil in that as my saw? I have a Ryobi weed wacker, wonder where I can get two stroke oil for that? Ya know what, do I have to run Stihl bar oil in my chainsaw? Can I run husqvarna bar oil in my Stihl, or will that void the warranty? I'm really worried about my daughter's Intrepid now, I've just been putting in whatever kind of oil is on sale at Walmart. Damn, 230,000 miles on it without using the manufacturer's oil!? How is that possible!

All oil is same like every brand of gasoline is the Same!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you live near a bulk gas termal you see all brands of tanker filling up. They all use same gas, THE DIFFERANCE IS THE ADDITIVES THEY PUT IN TANKER. Why would oil be any different. I have a 2003 Yamaha with 17,385 Miles on it never had any thing done to it except spark plugs, cab work, and minor clutch work. All miles have been with Yamalube. Has 128-130# WITH Snap On Gauge on all three cyls

Why 14,000-15,00$ and put $10.00 oil in your sled

Now you fellers got me thinking. I own three different brand sleds. Do I need three different Power Ranger gear set ups for each sled. If I ride more than one sled in the same day, should my buds give me extra time for a costume change?

Chit, forgot to get more one gallon gas cans. Four different two stroke yard tool brands. Each one will now require its own brand special mix. It never ends.
