Sorry for asking, but *** would you buy a 1st year model?

You know, for the amount of money spent on these things, they should be working right! What's next? Blowing motors at 5000 miles??

That's what I was thinking???? lol. I have never bought 1st year models.......ever! It is so sad the public is left up to getting the bugs out. Poo is notorious for it. I was seriously looking at the Yamicat until Ezra said it was "cute" and nice for his wife.

I heard the motors have a fire in the combustion chambers if you start the motor. Seats getting warm if butt on it for more than 5 mins and and exhaust fums coming out the exhaust pipe.

I think it comes down to yamaenvy, why all the hating and bashing,,,,lol

I've bought first years on all the sleds from Ski-doo, to Polaris to Arctic cat, to Yamaha.
I have three Vipers now and have ZERO issues, O wait now I have to have actuator replaced, big deal... 15 min fix per dealer!
No big deal to me, LOVE the sleds! Bash all you want, I will always buy first year sleds and not worry, none of them are perfect

Agree somebody has to buy first year sleds or we would not get to 2nd yr.

I have been reading a bit about these sleds...would like to know how cold they are to ride. Have been finding a few coments on head gaskets going. Lots of coments on how good the suspension is though.

Ok, sorry gotta give my input here. It's a simple detent kit. Takes about 15 minutes. I've sold over 40 Vipers and only two have damaged the chaincase, one in which my brother fixed yesterday. I'm very happy with our first year results. If you read it on the internet it must be true right? Bonjour!!!!! LOL! Come on guys, really? Not only that but most Viper customers have a 5 year warranty which like other O.E.M.S is not limited. Please find something better than this to complain about. They are cold if you leave the factory windshields on the S.E. models. They do make a tall windshield which I have in stock and then they are plenty warm riding. If anybody will back a first year sled it will be Yamaha, unmatched warranty, period.

BAAAAHAHA!!!!! Now why in the world would head gaskets start blowing on the Viper or Cat same old 3 cylinder 4s engine just a choice of drive clutch Cat or Yam? Something else migth have 1st year blues but not the engine.

Not bashing whitedust...heck I own a yammadog..just some things I have been reading is all...around 200 mile. Temp on some are getting warm...some are not even hitting 170 when they drop. Seems like on ty one guy has had it happen two or theree times on same sled but do not know all the details.

Kip, 5% issues at just one dealer is not a good thing. That would mean out of 5000 sleds 250 have problems. This is coming from one of the Best dealers who takes extra caution setting up a sled. I would say it is even higher on lesser dealers who are not as good.

15% of the people on TY website said they are not happy with them.

I would say the Yamacat sled is going ok but in no way is it a huge industry changing success.

Lots of gremlins in these sleds, starting issues, chaincase issues, loose clamps and now some head gasket going on some sleds. Not to mention low mph on top end.

For the most expensive 600 class sled in the industry at around $12,000 OTD this sled should of been gone over with a fine toothed comb by Yamaha and Cat. It sure does have alot of CAT issues on QC that we have seen in the past. You can go Indy 600 for a lot less money and be just as happy with a great trail sled.

Banks93,

Understood. It's not perfect and I know that but all in all it has boosted Yamaha sales tremendously and that is a success. 15% are not happy. I'm not a betting man but I would say that 15% of customers who buy any motor based product are not happy in one way or another. All O.E.M.S have their issues. Let's just say it's the biggest P.O.S. on the planet Banks. Yamaha will still stand behind it and take care of their customer's and that's the difference. You get what you pay for and it is a great product because Yamaha will stand behind it. The other O.E.M.s could use a little work in that area. I agree the 600 is a great product for the money and it costs much less to build. I can also tell you that I've had some unfortunate burn downs and was unable to get assistance on them which was disappointing for me as we are not use to saying no to our customer's. So yeah, there's a difference and it's a big one. This is not bias, it's fact as far as product support is concerned. I love what Polaris and Yamaha have to offer. Though they are different they both have their positives and negatives just like any other manufacturer. Also Banks, if you get the Polaris 600 with like features of the Viper LTX there isn't much difference in price. I've sold them both. Get a 2014 Switchback PRO R 600 ES and retail is 11,699. The Viper LTX retails is 12,499. Both have good gas rebuildable shocks. Viper comes with Heated seat and Rear bag standard. Also what would be the cost to operate per year? There's also a difference for the money there. This is not bias, it's fact. I want to make it clear that I'm not pitting Polaris vs. Yamaha!! If we're were talking weight this conversation would be different. Fine tooth comb? I don't follow that, all O.E.M.S have problems out of the box at one time or another. Also, resale value is considerably different. I remember the first year Nytro getting pounded for handling as well it should! The Nytro earned it! However, whenever I get one in it sells almost right away and the they still bring as much as 5500 with low miles. If it has 8 to 10 thousand miles on it then you're looking at 3500 to 3900. That's pretty good money for a sled with that kind of miles. I understand where you're coming from Banks93 and you make some good points I just think there's more to it than a quick opinion.

All brands have had their problems, always have, always will. Brand loyal peeps are the first to get riled up when someone says something negative about their brand. I own a Pro RMK because it works for me, not because it is a Polaris. I have owned all 4, and in my experience, my cats were the least dependable. My Yammy was bullet proof, so was my 07 600 RMK. So far, my 2012 RMK has been, 1800 miles now, no issues.

If I were to buy a trail sled, I would ride all 4 and see what I liked the best, then I would have to decide which dealer I would buy from. I know who would take care of me as far as Cat Yamaha and Polaris is concerned. Kip, and Chad!!
