Standing up

While riding this last weekend I noticed a big increase in those who now stand up while riding the trails. Riding off trail and in the deep stuff its obvious why someone stands, but I don't really understand the benefit of riding a trail standing. It seems to me that cornering while sitting would be easier and works better because of a lowered center of gravity, you can also transfer the weight to the front skis making them bite better. I don't really care how someone rides I just am curious of the benefits of it from those that do.

I stand up occasioonally for bumps and t0 stretch out my back and legs but I agree, sitting is way more comfortable. Now go back to my first sled, a 1973 Evinrude Bobcat SS, and standing up was a survival skill, lol...

I sit most of the time but will stand to stretch my legs, see over snow dust, take in the bumps a little and to give my a@@ a little break. not sure why some stand for an extended period on the trail.

I agree being 6'5 my bars would look like ape hangars if I had them. So I try to sit most of the time.

Stand up on my 2012 Apex xtx installed riser to do it no use banging my back when can take it with legs then plant my butt whenever possible. Long day on trail feels good to stand in junk....but that's me not right for everyone

since the rev, all brands have followed and we now have stand up sleds for the most part. It is the evolution of snow mobiling. I like the fact I canstand and stretch out and still feel comfortable. The trade off is you have a tippy sled when compared to the past pre rev sleds.

I stand up when I'm showing off in the parking lots. It helps me to see all the people watching me....lol

I'll usually only stand up when it's rough or I'm stretching on trails.
Out west obviously I stand much more, but still usually sit on the trail.

I stand up pretty much 80-90% of time just cus it feels natural to me since I raced motocross and had to stand all time there besides corners but that's me.

finally the truth about standing!....LOL...looking cool and/or to pass gas

I grew up on unsuspended sleds . You needed to stand or put a knee on the seat to get through the plowed fields.
Old habits die hard but age sure catches up quick.,,,I don't stand as much.

I stand up when it's bumpy, sit when it's not. Last time I was up to da yoop, trail 3 early evening was the worst I've seen it in a couple of years. I stood up, waaaaaay easier on the back. I seen so many people sitting down, being bucked around, all I could think was, ***, do these people not know how smoother it is if you stand up and let your legs become part of the suspension?

I am almost 7 foot tall. Standing while riding is hazardous to my head. There are times I wish I could but for me it doesn't make sense.

Just like others - from racing motorcross, bad back, cool off, stretch out, see better, more comfortable are just some of my reasons. I am about a 50/50 guy. Any speeds over 55 I am usually sitting. Lower than that I am standing.

With a bad back, if I could not stand as much as I do with the new style sleds, I would be done riding.
