Stopping at Stop signs!!

So what's the deal with paving all of the bike paths.I used to ride a racing style street bike 20 years ago on the compacted gravel with no problem. Most of the bikes I see now are the mountain bikes with big tires and shocks on them.
I would also like to stop hearing from riders about how they aer not burning any gas or disturbing nature like us horrible snowmobilers. The asphalt put down uses a crapload of petroleum and I'm sure the wildlife was'nt too excited about the graders, pavers dumptrucks , and compactors going through the woods.
I really would'nt care about the trails getting paved, but it just always seems to open the door for the snowmobiles to often get moved off of the trail that they were quite often a big part of doing the original work on in hte first place.

mxzchris, all you have to do is share the road and you will have no problem with me,also i do slow down.bikes are normally inconsiderate.i think bikes should have to register with plates if they want a full lane. i also carry protection, prophelactics if you need to know.the only scewing other people i do is when and where i can.

Ok then, we agree. I ride right on the white stripe, so I'll wave when you go by.
Shut up about the registration though. Don't give them any more ideas. Next thing you know, Gov. will put toll booths on sidewalks.

I always like the arguement bikers don't pay for the roads. Just because we happen to be on a bike when you went by, we don't own a car also, Yaa right!

Just like saying... When you step out of your car to cross the street.... you better watch out cause you didn't pay for the road.

As a driver I hate pedestrians, and as a pedestrian I hate drivers, but no matter what the mode of transportation, I always hate bicyclists.

Ok, that may have been harsh. My point is, many drivers are inconsiderate, as well as cyclists. Doing what you're doing just makes things worse, not better. How about slowing down, and moving over.
Many of us on bikes do carry protection, and starting a fight on the roadside can only go badly. Your tactics will only illicit an angry response, to which you may over-react, and it will escalate from there. Lots of people are real tough when they have a 4000lb advantage. I have been in confrontations where a car stopped, it never goes well. For example, a group of us were riding in Walworth county. Not a city road, plenty of room, single file. Some smarta-- thought he would get real close to us, by the time he got to the front rider, he got a foot in the quarter panel. Nice big dent. He stopped, and ended up going home bleeding. An unnecessary situation, that could have been even worse.

I also ride a limited part of Walworth and western Racine co. I'm usually solo and do an hour ride and like you, I use about 18" of the road. I am lucky enough to be in a rural area where traffic is very low and ppl are 99% respectful.
I think the biggest legitimate gripe that exists among motorists are the,....what I call.... "miltant bicyclists"..... who sometimes seem to ride simply to envoke motorist rage by riding 2 wide wherever and whenever they please with the one guy staying mid-lane,....I see these clowns all the time during there "team" rides out here in the sticks.
As far as I'm concerned these cowboys will help build motorist rage that may eventually end up being taken out in a misdirected way on an otherwise respectful bike rider.

Actually, you'd be surprised at how much snow you can pedal through (with the proper tires/inflation). I know a guy that rides his bike year 'round on the snowmobile trails with huge tires and low pressure.

Does spandex help too?

Can't we all just get along?
I snowmobile and you have to be defensive from the sno-x wannabe's.
I ride bicycle also and their are the clowns that think they own the trail and street.
I also am a runner and I've met the type that think everyone has to watch out for them.
In our world today people are always in a hurry and just don't care about their actions.
It's their way and screw what others think. I often think, I'd be miserable if I lived that way. My motto is to Live Happily Everafter.

Generally I don't have a problem with bicyclists, but after I've stay behind you for the last half mile or so being courteous and waiting for a safe place to pass, don't expect me to be happy when we get to the stop sign and you pass me back on the inside so we can start all over again! (Long damn sentence) I got into the habit of hanging to the shoulder when getting to that stop sign so they can't pass on the inside. I don't want to go through the whole ordeal again when I'm I my truck weighing 80,000 lbs+. Can't we all just get along!
