I thought u lived in Woodbury but I see u live in Woodbury thought there were good trails out your way that went to the river valley. been a lot of yrs but I have ridden around oakdale .usually make 1 short treck a season to buds places in Bayport for the big island party and to run the river for the day. Man now that I am thinking about it last time I was on a trail in oakdale I was on a new zrt lol guess time really dose fly

As long as we get enough snow to ride, that's why I'm whining, should be able to ride out of garage but not enough snow too. If this el nino thing keeps up it'll be another year of trailer time. Only thing that may bite me is a new housing development, that may take out 1 of the main trails I use to get out to where I csn go any where from, hoping they can keep it in the ditch line.

yeah the developments are and will continue to be a huge deal with our sport.
I feel like I am talking to a brick wall every time bring up buying critical area easement's.
then few years latter 1 more trail lost that could have stayed open and owned by the club or MN usa for under 80k.
working my self with a old timer this summer trying to get permanent easement around his field . a lot of these old guys know what is coming and know they will be dead and that hosing development will be over there field and I think can be convinced to have a permanent trail skirting the property named after them for little money then survey and lawyer fees if u do not have them in your club

Great way for somebody that is a friend of the sport to leave a legacy via permanent trail easement. Your efforts are surely appreciated in your area I bet.

Hopefully el nino fizzles out. I would guess many people thinking about buying a sled are going to wait and see after last year's winter in quite a few places. On the other hand, I'm hoping to buy a new or newer sled after next season so it would be good to have a lot of inventory out there.

Great idea on easements too. When Michigan first hiked their trail permits, some of that money was to be set aside to buy permanent easements. I don't know if there has been any progress towards that.

when I moved last time that was one of the important things no non negotiable things on the list of where to live . ability to ride from house. if this town bans sleds and I highly doubt it will in my life that is when I move.

I had that on my list as well as the ability to have bonfires. Within the first six months I had my first bonfire and two hours in a cop roles up and tells me to put it out, so I ask why and his response was the town just passed an ordinance banning open burning, just my luck. Well at least I still could sled from my door, but that only lasted a couple years before that was banned as well. That was a downer for some time although I stopped registering in Illinois some time ago as the trail system has taken a big hit due to sprawl and not to mention the winters down here are not like they use to be.

Just so you all know it has been a cool & wet summer so far in the WI northwoods mostly 70s no 90s a few 80s lots of wind too ..it has not been a hot summer up north. I don't think there is enough known about El Nino to write off winter during summer months. To me wait & see with glass half full & watch the jet stream for storm track in winter.

Yea did that all last year. got in 2000 miles of pretty good riding.
Would like to work a little in the winter though too. Nice to have some income to help offset expense of drive to ride.
If I'd of known much I would have to trailer. I should have kept track of mileage on the truck, to do the riding I did.

You can always keep Floyd at my house.

the last thing that would have any ounce of sway in me buying a new sled is a projected el nino 6 months out.

heck they can't even project a 5 inch snowfall 24 hours in advance. (no offense JD)

Sure it does. I bet his job is easier when it is not 70 below 0. I would think the warmer weather would make it better.

Like the comments from all of the Alaska residents at end of that article. It seems the feeling is the NOAA is wrong more often than not.
Seems there is evidence Alaska was tropical in the past. "evidence of fruit trees in ground core samples"
The Earth goes thru natural cycles. Ice ages come and go. Sure humans are contributing but come on. We are one mega volcano or asteroid hit away from another ice age. The Earth recovered from them.....

Glad Obama is going to save us all with more epa regulations on power plants.... cough cough.......
Dear god.... Michigan just got the EPA crap worked out in court. Here comes another wave of stupidity.
Prepare for even higher energy bills.... Why do they do this to the American people? Make us suffer and pay much higher prices for energy than the rest of the world. All while a country like China pollutes more than ever and has no plans of changing. Just push more industry to China.
All these energy plans for the future.... no mention of nuclear. Why put focus on filters for coal? Allow more nukes...
And dont get me started on the wind and solar. With out government subsidies, it cost more per kwh than any other method of creating energy.
The cost of making, and energy used is nuts. And how many years it takes to pay for is typically longer then the expected life.
Just stupidity.

Where he is (Anchorage) bitter cold isn't the issue like it is up in Fairbanks. Because of the influence of the ocean, Anchorage itself is rather warm really. MANY times in the last two winters where it's been much colder here in NW Wisco that it has been in Anchorage.

What the warmer weather brings is actually less precip to the area and more rain (vs. snow) to the mountain areas north of Anchorage. The snowmachining (I just can't get my head around the word "snowmachine") season historically runs from October to April but the last two winters it's been pretty short. During the winter of 13-14 some riding areas north of Anchorage never opened. Last season was pretty short....Jan-March is memory serves.

The snowmachining (I just can't get my head around the word "snowmachine") .

I miss hearing snowmachine, and snowmachining. Growing up thats how we said it. It took me some getting used to hearing snowmobile, but now that I've been in MN for almost 30 years I have adopted the snowmobile as word of choice for my toys

We used to call them 'snowcats'. Now we call them power toboggans. The Canadians invented that term. They still have the Canadian Power Toboggan Championships at Beausujuer MB.

You are correct Rev, they have been called snowcats around here since the 60's. Grub, I was riding out of Pine Falls, Manitoba in 2002 and saw a sign on the trail that said absolutely no Power Toboggan 's past this point.

Kind of boring compared to snowcat or power tobbogan, but we used to use the term sled also quite a bit. "Taking the sled out"
I remember hearing the Canadians (we were on the border ) calling them power toboggans, thought it was cool, especially with the French Canadian accent
