I had a fb acct at one point but deleted it. Seems like there's nothing for sale in the usual places anymore - is everything on fb marketplace?

Good move deleting your account. Millions have already done it, I've never had Faceless, Twitter, Instagram, Tik Tok, but I did buy some Crypto currency about a month ago. It's done quite well so far. Nobody trusts Craigslist anymore but I still see things of interest on there. If you are looking for a sled there are a bunch of sled sites to look at online, here is a couple:

Facebook is now going to turn over your transaction records over $500 to the IRS so I will no longer be selling anything on Facebook
Just delete the listing, don’t mark it as sold. They also can’t do this unless you give them your social which under the manage payments section you can fill that in but don’t have to, to list or browse items.

I have had an account on there since 07 or 08, crazy, 15 years!! I view it as the best worst app ever created. I wouldn’t trade the good people I’ve met because of Facebook, for anything. But, I have to say the platform has created a TON of unwanted stress in my life, and I wouldn’t even want to know the amount of hours of my life wasted scrolling on there. At the end of the day, you have to choose to do what makes YOU happy, and I for one enjoy using Facebook to keep up on and communicate with people in my life. As much bad information and BS censoring that goes on, on there, I choose to keep on keeping on!

So it controls your life and your friends lives?

I see this with young ppl I work with. Not all but about 60%

Its a great tool but getting more corrupt and political everyday. IMO

I've had great luck on FB marketplace and Craigslist for both buying and selling.

As a older dude Snowbizzle you should know that the Newspapers and media were doing this very same thing well before Al Gore invented the internet.

I have used both Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist to buy and sell. It does seem that everything is on Facebook Marketplace these days and it's also a "hit or miss" way of buying & selling, there are definitely some good and some bad people on there. That being said I've had mostly good luck and a few disappointments. It's kinda sad to see that Craigslist is not what it once was as Facebook seems to have taken away their market.

Facebook is what you make of it, plain and simple. Its your actions. Its easy to have an account and only to view what you want. For me, I have some basic friends and a ton of snowmobile sites/clubs visible, great way to find out riding conditions and such. You know, you don't have to get involved with all the BS that goes on within social media sites....or at least don't be so weak to let crazy posts bother you. I do use marketplace and have had great success on it. Most younger generation kids do not use facebook, they have moved onto other social media site. I love Tiktoc....yeah there's a ton of stupid stuff on there but dang there are some hilarious videos posted. You know the good ones from the bad within about 3 seconds, but i don't spend much time on most sites.

I had to create an account early in the pandemic for some of the stuff for my kid's school. There were other ways to view the videos they put out there, but fb seemed to work better than the other options. I used it a bit for awhile but ended up deleting it again after the election - hard to want to support what they are doing and I'm concerned about privacy issues. Don't read this as political since I think both parties are two sides of the same coin and ran by corporations (not just FB), but that's another topic. I did set it up with an altered name and new email acct I used for nothing else, but I'm sure they can still datamine whatever else I was doing on my computer. Supposedly firefox has a new feature called container that prevents that from happening. My main point is it seems the whole for sale by owner world is now on fb marketplace, and if I'm going to be shopping for any used vehicles, snowmobiles, trailer, etc. it's hard to avoid it, so that's why I asked the question initially, to see if others are seeing that too. If so I'll probably get back on it and try to take some steps to protect my personal info on it.

I see the value in social media from how my wife is able to keep up with people, but for me it would turn into a big time waster. And the snowmobile forums I came across, at least for tech help, etc., were not exactly full of knowledgeable people like you see on here.

Just my $0.02 - or probably $0.03 now with inflation.

Yeah, facebook is the current go-to for online private sales of stuff, which sucks a dong because the search ability of FB marketplace is almost useless.

My wife is a psychologist and we've talked a bit about Facebook. I closed my Facebook account over 10 years ago because I let it bug me too much at times - it was my fault to let it bug me. There is data suggesting that the more time people spend on social media, the more anxiety and depression they experience; generally, a decline in psychological health. I imagine people are continuing to study this in more detail.
