It started here in ND yesterday with our first 90 degree day of the year. It was hot, dry and dusty out in the wheat field but I had a heck of a light show on my way home last night. NW MN had some big thunder storms with softball sized hail near Roseau.

Take a 70 degree dewpoint with that 115 temp frnash??? Thats what I hate. Stupid humidity... Our 90 with 70 plus dewpoint feels worse than your 110 I bet....

Weird. Only 79 here in Cincinnati right now. It is 83 at our cabin in northern MN. I guess I'd better brace myself for some heat headed this way.

"Our 90 with 70 plus dewpoint feels worse than your 110 I bet …"

I'll agree with that! I've been a desert rat for so long that I can hardly breath that "Loozy-Anna style swamp air" anymore.

If this was May or June, with a high temperature in the 110s to 122! (June 1990) the mid-day humidity would be in single digits — the lowest humidity on record for Phoenix was 4% in June of 1982. But this being monsoon season, we'll likely see the mid-day humidity in the high teens to low 20s, with dew points in the mid 50s to low 60s.

Quoted from "CLIMATE OF PHOENIX, ARIZONA: An Abridged On-Line Version of NOAA Technical Memorandum NWS WR-177" (in part):
May Weather

"May signals the beginning of the dry season. …

"The month averages only 0.12 inches of rain and is the driest month of the year. …

"At the same time, May humidities, like June, are generally extremely low in comparison with those of July and August. Perhaps May should be appreciated more than it is because it is nature's way of conditioning residents for the steamy summer season of higher temperatures and humidities."

June Weather

"June is the 2nd driest and one of the three hottest months of the year. …

"Despite the increasing heat, the air is very dry with the relative humidity even slightly lower than that of May and the lowest of the year. …"
And more …
"Phoenix records were checked back to 1896 to find the highest humidity ever for each temperature from 100 through 118 degrees.

"It is interesting to note that with high moisture content, with humidities in the 30% and 40% range, the temperature never reached over 105 degrees. It is only with very dry air that temperatures climbed over 112 degrees. This is nature's way of not allowing conditions to get entirely out of hand."

This should be the last day of 90's here in ND for a while. We had 93 on Wednesday, 94 on Thursday, 96 yesterday and they are calling for 97 today. The dew point has been in the low 70's but starting tomorrow the highs should be in the low to mid 70's for a while.

Looking at this, the heat y'all have be enduring in WIsky (Whiskey?) and NoDak, and the "extreme heat" events in Phoenix look like we've been havin' a day at the beach in Hawaii!

From Climate.gov: "Late July’s stupefying heat indexes in southwest Iran", August 14, 2015: Excerpts:
"Stepping outside during the summer often leads to an immediate groan, as if you suddenly found yourself stuck in a sauna. But for people living in southwest Iran along the Persian Gulf, conditions in late July went beyond the level of usual summer whining: on July 30-31, staying outside for a prolonged period could have led to heat stroke and death.
• • •
"… The event was not the “dry heat” that people in the United States associate with the desert Southwest. Instead, the scorching temperatures were accompanied by extremely humid conditions, which give the human body even less ability to cool itself off. …
• • •
"On July 30 in Bandar Mahshahr, at 4:30pm, the temperature was 111°F and the dew point 88°F, making the heat index value a whopping 155°F, an unfathomably high number. The next day, July 31, at 4:30pm, the heat index soared to 165°F, after a temperature of 115°F was reached while the dew point was 90°F.

"So maybe the lesson here is the next time you find yourself wanting to complain after stepping out of your air-conditioned oasis into the muggy summer weather, remember: it could be worse… a lot worse."
In Iran??? Aww, I'm so sorry for them. Boo Hoo! :(
Now can we ship some of that to ISIS?

Looks like we'll be getting a break here in MN after today. Low 80's sunday, 70's monday, and saying a high of 65 on Wednesday. I'm liking that forecast, hope it holds.

Summer made a brief return in ND this week. We had 88 on Tuesday, 90 on Wednesday, and 93 yesterday with a heat index of 100, last night at midnight it was still 81 degrees. It is supposed to get to 87 today and then cool off and rain for the long weekend. Next week it looks like highs in the 60's and lows in the 40s, perfect weather for digging potatoes.

Yep happy to have some warm weather here in northern WI but happy to see it go too don't like living in constant AC. By Wednesday back in 60s for highs & lots to do to pack up summer toys & look for 1st snow in October.
