summer storage

I would recommend finding a local guy who HAS done it before and watch. In the absense of that, start by trying to run the carbs dry or drain them, pull the sparkplugs and give the jugs a shot of some oil, and roll the crank a few times to get the oil distributed around the return the plugs. Draw the gas tank down to less than 1/4 tank and add some stable to the fuel, throw a hose in the tank and blow on it to get the stable to mix.

Pull the battery if it has one, marking or tying off the cables to make it easy to reconnect next winter.

Might want to tape off the muffler hole to keep mice out. Some even throw a mouse trap in the engine compartment to check on once in awhile.

Grease all the fittings as shown in the book to get all the moisture out of the fittings. Don't forget the pto side of the drive sprocket to get some grease in and water out...that bearing gets wet and tends to go bad if you don't.

Keep the sun off the unit as much as possible, place it in storage out of rain. Make sure your trailer has some venting so that the trailer doesn't become a cooker in the sun.

Then prop the sled up in the rear to keep the track from resting on the floor, and some even put a milk crate under the front to take the load off the skis.

That should get you where you want to go....now. In the fall pour in some fresh gasoline and go easy on the first tank til you get the old gas gone.

Sometimes I have to read over and over what your posts say. You make very good points. A comma would be nice!! It's all good :)

Ditto on the WD40 on many things. I really spray down the exhaust, it does wonders. My 11 year old sleds exhaust looks like its only a year or 2 old.

Didn't realize that you were typing all this from a phone! That's a pain in the @$&!

Back to the thread...I agree with putting WD or LPS-1 on different parts. I just fog them, put stabilizer in the gas, lift the rear end, and grease the bearings on the left side. I'll change the chaincase oil when the season rolls around again.

I just buy a $4 can of hi-temp paint and repaint it every year. Unless that is your exhaust is ceramic coated...

Stabil

The only thing different I do is run the engine after I add the stabil. This gets it good and mixed up and distributed throughout the entire fuel system. Sometimes I add it before my last ride just for an extra measure of safety.

Hey venturenorth,
You could do like my buddy does. After your last ride, pull it into the garage, turn the key off and go to the tavern. If it doesn't start next fall, call the dealer to pick it up. :)

no kidding. Kids at school think you can just ride your sled into the ground and it's supposed to run. They know I tear apart my sled all the time and do stuff, so apparently everything I buy is a POS.
