Yea, I bet you probly feel a "real man" when you tailgate....LOL

that can also be said when you MAKE other folks slow down too??[/QUOTE]

Try this....annoyingly tailgate someone in a checkout line where you don't have a car protecting you....LOL

Shouldn't be any debate on this one. Absolutely no excuse to be following so close that you can't safely stop if brake lights in front of you come on (regardless of the reason). It's called driving safely.

I think the basic gist of the law says, stay in control of your vehicle, no matter what it takes, as conditions dictate.
Too bad there are so many entitled folks on the road. What ever happened to assured safe distance ahead and behind? Defensive driving and courtesy is a lost art. If someone want to pass, let them. Don't be a left lane entitled driver.

Here is the local newspaper article... The tailgater is reported as being at-fault as she received a citation.
Check out this article from The Post-Crescent:

Watch SUV tailgate, crash on I-41

Also for anyone who feels the driver who slowed should have moved over; please tell me when this could have been done?? A vehicle was clearly merging from the ramp so should the slowing driver changed lanes???

Hopefully the brake checker dies in a horrible one car crash someday. What a POS.

Speaking of POS.....

Your comment shows how great of a human being you really are. Wishing death on a person?? You are obviously the clear POS.

Also applies to Skylar. I thought you were better than that, at least your online persona.

I am, just showing him what an idiotic statement he made. I would not wish death upon anyone.

LOL...I didn't wish death upon them....we're all gonna die. I wished a terrible death upon them. A person who intentionally and unnecessarily escalated a situation, putting lives in danger, should get a just reward. Without the safety fence, someone in the Northbound lane could have easily been killed and since I frequent that stretch of 41, well, that could have been me.

And, for the record, I've never tailgated in my life.

I've been tailgated lots of times, and also didn't try to kill people by taking the law into my own hands....I just move over.

Freeway is not a place to "play". Other people can be hurt due to your "games". The driver that lost control nearly went into oncoming lanes of traffic. Consequences could have been devastating.
My hope would be that you guys that think the highway is some kind of playground, see this video as how close this came to changing peoples lives for ever. And possibly rethink what they may or may not do in similar situations.

Fair game starts as soon as the tailgater continues behind the lead vehicle and does not back off... That is the aggressive maneuver which I would be less inclined to accept as just being okey dokey... People nowadaze are taught to accept these intimidation maneuvers and are suppose to back down move aside blah blah... I guess I might be a lil less sensitive to the matter having been in a couple rear enders and personally knowing someone whos child was mashed into the child seat and pinning them helplessly into the front seat...

Luckly no REAL players where harmed in the filming of this episode...

I think they are both at fault - but more so the tailgater. He certainly should not have been so close, but the guy in front should not have hit the brakes either.

I run 41 a lot around the fox valley an no this exact area where the accident happened. I don't know what it is about this area, but people generally speaking seem to drive slow and are unaware of people coming up from behind them. I travel a lot for work and hit many cities in a given week so have a feel of what this area is compared to other cities. 41 can be frustrating to drive - and I am on both ends of the spectrum. When pulling a trailer - I am often the guy who is doing between 65-70 mph. When going via car, if traffic is fairly open, the guy doing 8 mph over the speed limit. Tailgating is never the answer. I think a quick flash of your lights will at least make the person aware you are attempting to get around them if they are in a daze of sorts. That was not the case here - but who knows what was happening 5 miles before this. I know if I see a guy quickly approaching me from behind, I will try to kick it down a bit to pass quickly and let the other guy pass. But I have also been on 41 with a line of cars in the left lane, all doing 2-3 mph over the speed limit and no where to go, with a guy right on my bumper. All I try to do there is provide a bit of a gap between me and the guy in front of me so it is only a 2 car crash versus a 3.

Tapping your brakes like that is like the boy who cried wolf. If he does it a few times, the driver behind will get complacent when he really has to stop. It's just not a good idea. That being said, the tailgater was the one mainly at fault here. There was no reason or excuse for that in this case.

I don't understand how you could be in favor of aggressive driving if you personally know a child that was trapped in a car after an accident. This pic is of an accident I was in in 1998. I was hit nearly head on luckily the car sideswiped me. I am now blind in one eye because of it. Lucky to be alive. PLAYING F..ING GAMES ON THE ROAD ISWRONG ! Please think before doing STUPID **** on the road that could injure or kill others!
