I have really been getting into snowmobiling the last couple of years. Is a Tek Vest worth the money. They sure look like this is as important as a helmet. Who makes the best? Were would a guy purchase one? Any help would be appreciated.

YES! Don't know if anyone makes THE best one, but, my tekvest saved my but back in Feb of 2004! Just as important as a helmet in my opinion.

A tek vest is manditory if you ride with me. I have the Klim version of tek vest. Guys that ride with me have skidoo version or original tek vests. It is not an expense. It is an investment. ask any "Real" riders out there. If you do the high speed miles and have taken a ski to the middle of your back because you got thrown off, or slow speed ditch banger who has taken a large branch to the chest you need a Tek vest. Heck mine is Kevlar. I hope it will take a gun shot. thats another story. Question: Do you need to be some where on Monday morning? Not mourning on monday. than you need a Tek vest. note: I do not work for tek vest.

A Tekvest or similar protection is cheap insurance, hoping you never need to find out how well it works.

I wear a TekVest Supersport model, no complaints!

Do you sweat alot under a vest? I generally wear 1 layer under my coat, I run a bit hot. I would think I'd be soaked.

mxz_chris, You have to change out your underlayer(s) as needed for the conditions and the type of riding you're doing just like you would if you weren't riding with a Tek vest. With mine, I wear a long sleave synthetic shirt and then a mid-weight fleece, the vest and then my shell when the temps were in the teens. But when you move around alot (aggresive riding, off trail or digging out a sled) you sweat up. Open up your pit zips and the back vent and you cool down again.

It's just a matter of trying out combos that'll work for you. REMEMBER only wear synthetics. NO COTTON!

Yes, you should get a tekvest. At this time there are many choices. Get one that works for you and wear it all the time when you ride. End of story.

The zip up is nice if you're taking a break and want to cool down.

Need protection that breaths try sixsixone. I wear core protector as a layer with 3 in 1 with spine protection & don't wear the thick zip in insulation just the fleece then the outer jacket. Tek vest was too restrictive in the arm pit area for me & I don't have that problem with sixsixone. Lots of brands but I feel naked without sixsixone.

Somebody correct me if I am wrong but all the manufactures' (Klim, AC, Ski Doo, etc.) version of the Tek Vest are actually still made by Tek Vest. They just have a different logo or colors on them. I would not spend more to have a logo on it unless it is important to you of course. The best price I have found is from http://xtremesledparts.com/
