Our whole family rides with them and will not ride without one.. sixsixone we like as more mobile we found

Me too...More versatile protection for contact sports or outside work like dropping trees where debris goes flying in any direction. Moves with you and breaths plus back belt allows back and kidney support. Buy what you like but buy one they are awesome security for protection when you least expect that off. If you haven’t been dumped off in the snow a few times guess what it’s coming. Lol

I wear a EVS snow vest. I liked the feel of it over the tekvest when I bought it 5 years ago. I believe HMK and 509 vest just an EVS vest with their brand on them.

I'll second that for EVS. Have used it for over 6 years. SixSixOne is another viable alternative.

Does anyone wear their vest outside their jacket instead of inside or under their jacket? Speaking mostly to trail riders here. I see off trail riders wear them this way but never trail riders. I’ve been using one under my jacket for about 15 years now, but was wondering if you would feel less bulky on the outside. When buying a jacket you need to buy a size larger to accommodate the tek vest.

For me this depends on what I am doing. Trail riding I wear it under the jacket, it seems to help keep me warmer. When back-country riding I put it on the outside as it seems to help me keep a bit cooler.

Nope, I wear mine under my jacket.

On trail guys don't wear one because they think accidents dont happen.

Spot on Skylar, that is so true! And some results of that kind of mindset, are very bad for the families left behind.

I’m considering buying a tekvest ($380). Does anyone use one or recommend a different brand?

Just came across your post.

I wear a Tekvest, have for over 15 years-same one actually.

Not sure what model you are looking at specifically but check out Amazon and eBay for new TekVests at some good prices.

I was going to replace my "old" TekVest as I had found some good buys on them but after contacting the manufacturer they told me if there have been no impacts to the vest and it is in good shape with no visible damage it's good to keep using. They have some still in use for over 20 years!

Tekvest Freestyle for a number of years.

6'1, 180lbs size large jacket and needed size medium TekVest.

Wear it under jacket - keeps me warmer and don't even know I'm wearing it.

Bought the sixsixone core savers for the family (three of them) but none of them wear them. All still new with tags....

Why won’t they wear them?

whatever you buy, ride with one. As CrossfireLOW stated, would have saved a trip to ER. I got a Tekvest as a gift from my wife after that event. I will not ride without the protection. The Tekvest is very comfortable, I don't even know i have it on.

I must be in the minority. Have one and wear it all time. To me it feels cumbersome, makes jacket feel bulky, and way too warm most of time. Maybe I should try it on outside.

It sounds as you haven't been fitted properly, size that is? Many buy a larger size than what properly fits them, and they sound as you do. I would have bought too large of size myself, but was fortunate to have a dealer personal that knew what she was doing to get me the proper fit. Well worth the trip to the dealer store. They had a arrangement with TekVest to promote safety, at a good price. This being due to the dealer losing a good friend, that a vest possibly could have saved a life. My vest surely saved me 3 years ago this March.
