I have 6 cats from 2004-2015, they collectively have over 50,000 miles plus with out any electrical, motor, or catastrophic failure.....I have normal ware and tear which is expected.......the sleds are ridden hard but I also have an aggressive maintenance program in spring/fall........ I believe if you take care of what your riding......cat, poo, doo, yami, they all will run deep into high miles......I do understand things do happen, but that's the minority these days....... now I do have some riding buddies who park there sleds in spring, fire them back up in fall and cant understand why there broken down so much.....I bleed green and am a advocate of cat and there products...... I do have a new zr5000 4stroke and love it, maybe you need to look in that direction........good luck.

That sux man. Sometimes in life ya just gota cut ur losses and move on

Let me guess.... Doo?? Don't even bother with any other brand because anything not yellow is junk, right?

Yep 4 stroke Yami, Nick Keller has 80,000 miles on his. Never a rebuild. just had to have the cam and valves serviced. I would like to get a Viper someday, probably used.

I just posted in another thread, Nick's Vector went down just shy of 81,000mi from a timing issue last Wednesday. New motor now. I'm not saying all Yamahas will go 81,000 miles but that it still mighty impressive!

I totally agree Shelby....my sleds are cleaned, stabilized, and stored indoors (covered) in the summer...I check my clutches , belts, carbides and slides before every ride...it happens...I don't blame the dealer where it was bought...it is a used sled...as is..it happens...I wasn't trying to pick on one particular brand...I was simply pointing out...that it has and can happen to ANY brand (in my case)...I currently ride a cat...it is currently broke down...so naturally I am frustrated with cat...lol
The three guys I ride the most with...just bought new sleds...one has the new Polaris axys 800 (switchback)...the other has the new GSX SE 1200...and the other one bought a new vector ltx from Pats last February..I will be riding each of them sometime this winter...they are all Great sleds...the guy with the vector rode polaris for 40 years...and said the vector is the best snowmobile he has ever owned...loves it....the guy with the GSX SE loves his too...the AXYS is still new...not out of break in mode yet.

If I buy something it will be a four stroke...and most likely a yamaha, and it will be bought at PAT'S or M&M....The doo dealer has nothing here...sold out

If after riding it you're still giving the Doo consideration, you might want to check with Timberline in Bergland. Great guys to deal with.

What would you call low miles on a Yamaha? Just curious.

At Pat's some Apex come in with 1200 miles or less ...low miles & some include transferrable YES. Once Yamis hit 5000 miles or so still low miles sleds & time to keep until in teens or something else comes out that you have to have. From 2007 Attak GT to 2012 Apex XTX it was EPS, exup & 144 iceripper track but mostly eps & 144 is what I wanted.

We did a rebuild of Nick's sled here. It was the timing chain that let go. Had it been changed the motor would still be running very strong. Jeff pulled the motor rebuilt it and had Nick going very fast so his time lost was limited. Timing chain should most likely have been changed at 50,000 miles but at least we know how long it can go without being changed!!! LOL! His sled has been very impressive but Nick has been even more impressive!!!!

Nah sounds like he likes the older stlye yammi's and wants a 4s, obviously 4 strokes dont have near the risk of 2s. If it was doo 1200 would be worth a try. 900ace prolly underpowered after coming off 1000

I am not as brand Loyal as some of you think...I am more dealer loyal...both Pat's and M and M have treated me very good...this Cat hasn't lived up to my expectations...it's certainly not the dealers fault...it was a great deal on a low mileage sled...and when the engine went down chad went out of his way to take care of me...which I appreciate...I am hoping it's something minor (a ground wire or pick up coil)...I will know more sunday...either way...I am making my bank lady sharpen her pencil....so...something good can come out of a sled going down...maybe a new sled?? I hope :)

Do it, you will be happier, still a good 2+ months of season left. those sleds have their place but 1000cc 2 strokes are as risky of an engine as there is. mach z and cat 1000 had their issues, but when they run they do run.

Attack man, you should have never traded an Attack for an AC, you talk about a major, major downgrade.
This is all hindsight, I get that, so I won't goad you like I did last year. I can understand your frustration as I was there at one time with the biggest pile of dung, boat anchor T-Cat, one could ever imagine.
With my AC it was one thing after another, every single time I rode it, something ELSE went wrong. Take it to 4 diff dealers, spend a ton of money on service, and major inconvenience trailering it back at forth between Iron County and southern WI, only to have another problem. Just horrible, horrible engineering.
I've spent alot of time ripping on the weight of Yamaha, but if the price and circumstances were right, I'll buy another one.
But there will NEVER be another AC purchase as long as I live.

Well...I actually liked my crossfire...it really was a nice sled (after a bit of work)...it just used alot of oil and gas, and like all cat two strokes...vibrated bad...I just wanted a warm..nice riding chassis....this 1000 was all of that...the motor isn't as awesome as I thought it would be (my 07 Attak would eat this thing from 80 mph up)...but otherwise it's fine...it really is a comfy sled...that handles nice.

The Yamaha's may be heavier, and might not be the smoothest ride in the biz...but they sure do build a GREAT motor...they are very addicting....I do miss it.

Can't go wrong with a used cherry low mile Yami BUT somebody has to buy them new so we can buy them used..lol

Tru dat! $15,000 for a new sled? You can get a home for that up here in Ironhood. I was looking at other used 4 stroke yami's on CL still 7 8 9 grand. Some older higher miles ones in the 4's.

When time go to Pat's your are closer than I am...lol Lots of used Yammi iron thru Pat's & Kip always prices sleds to sell units don't last long when snow files so if you see it ...you like it ....buy it.... or someone else will.:)

........Thats too bad i have had good luck with my cats. 98 ZRT 600 took a heck of a beating and was only rebuilt once in 6500 miles due to the the needle bearing on the piston rod failed. Also my 02 ZR 800 efi x-country was a great sled except i had the throttle position sensor go bad and a broken reed petal once, Neilson's fixed it charging me only 1 hour labor right before a storm hit. I have had friends that have had good luck with AC but not so much with Polaris or Doo. I did have one friend that had lots of trouble with his 03 F7 so i guess any manufacturer can have problems with sleds depending on their care and use.
