The good and the bad

Well, yanked the mountain sled yesterday up to the UP and boy am I glad it did! They got an unspoken of foot in the last 5 days, and while riding yesterday it was bombing snow ALL DAY! My guesstimate is 4-6” just yesterday while we were riding, and who knows it could’ve snowed all night for all I know and ended up with twice that! No shortage of snow that’s for sure. More snow doesn’t mean smoother trails though, as trail 3 felt like a mogul section on a snocross track. The bad, on the drive home as we got just south of Eagle River, it rained/freezing rained ALL the way home. By the time we got to Wittenberg, you could tell there was substantial snow loss as we could see some bare grass and bare plowed field areas. Yes, the rain did turn to snow overnight, we ended up with about an inch on the west side of Appleton. But, it will take a lot more than a fluffy inch to recover what was lost. My advice to anyone who plans to ride south of highway 8, do some research and DONT expect it to be the same as what you just rode 2 days ago… On the bright side, we do have some shots of snow this week! Think Snow!

Ughhh.......sounded like a fun drive home....hate that. Looks like some warmer weather ahead this week too.👎
Yah not sure where to ride next weekend 🤷🏼‍♂️
Trip scheduled Houghton 23rd. hopefully winter holds out!

Vilas is holding its own as long as you are in the woods. Not good in towns. The little snow we have been getting is like baby powder. The only thing keeping us going is the base has been solid, but we really need more snow, especially the heavier kind.

Indy, how was Vilas looking? North of ER.
Wiscrev hit it on the head. It’s been a month now since I’ve ridden Vilas but from what I can see from the road and with my judgment, what he stated is just how it is right now.

I’m hoping for some decent light snows this week to keep us within 1.5 hrs of good trails from the valley, but the temps look fairly mild some rain possible Friday. You should be more than good riding the 23rd out of Houghton. Plenty of snow, they should be set in the Keweenaw for awhile unless winter takes a crazy turn for the worse.

Indy, if you ever stop this way, let me know. BTW, I only go out on weekdays. I'm guessing we had 1000 sleds in St Germain this past weekend for the Bikini run. It was also busy in ER.

Hoping the snow starts arriving, like everyone else. Tentatively planning to head up a month from today. Most years the UP is great then but who knows this year.

I rode Land O’Lakes and Conover last weekend , they could use some fresh snow but over all the trails were good. A little brown near street crossings , Saturday it snow all day just enough to make everything look white again
