things change with age

I rode last week with a group of high school buddies. we're all in our middle thirtys. use to ride alot together in our twentys and after every ride there was a life threatening story because of speed, alcohol and stupidity. so I was a little worried when I left with the truck and trailer, to make the story short I was shocked with the way everyone acted. no drinking until sleds were parked, no stupid driving and everyone respected each other and the property around us. one of my freinds called tonight and said how much fun he had and how enjoyable it was to enjoy the scenery and the sport. put on 425 miles in 2.5 days.

what I'm trying to say is, there's enough time to have some drinks when riding is done, there's a time and place to crank on the throttle, and a clear head and some common sense can lead to a better time. can't wait for the next trip. I hope it doesn't take 10 years again.

Amazing what a few years of experience and maturity does for a guy isn't it...lol Glad u all had a great time and great riding! THAT'S WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT!! Just wish the ones that haven't learned those lessons about drinking and riding or too much speed would catch on soon! We've all done those things at one point or another and lived to tell about it, but it's that one instance of complacency that turns into traggedy! RIDE OFTEN, RIDE SAFE, RIDE AGAIN!!

Well said! Funny how life works. I'm going to be 30 this year and it's amazing how much I've changed from a few years ago.

Well I'm just glad that you got together with old buddies and were all on the same page!

I'll also say that riding with the kids changes everything. We've joked "WOW! Those were TREES we were flyin by!!" We like to take lazy loops now...and I havent really looked at my odo in I don't know how long! But i know that our last trip we did over 500 miles in 4 days and I only know that cuz I can kinda add. All I remember about the trip was seeing lake in the clouds on a clearish day, how pristine 102 was in particular and beautiful trails in general, watching my 13 yr old son amaze me with his control and "smart" sled riding great stops and just some good people all around. And we all had a great time as a family and with friends!

Again, am glad you have a good time with some old friends and it all worked out! that's what riding is all about!

Go to the eye doctor when you get in your 40s and they like to remind you of your age and it will not be long before you will need bifocals.

Great fun was having a few pops and getting the 800 triples with pipes on the Auto Bahn (Flambeau Flowage) and seeing 120 on the speedo !!

It's great to hear that you and your buds had a great time and are looking forward to the next time. It's funny how age changes a person. Years ago, my son and I discovered the fun of riding off trail in the UP powder. The 121 inchers were not cutting it so I eventually got a couple of Mt Cat 144 inchers. Then I added a third sled (2 up Cat 660 non-turbo 4 stroke) to have when my wife wants to ride (she doesn't like to drive). Anyway...my son and I had many years of enjoyment on the Mt Cats. I sold one of the Mt Cats and upgraded to a 2009 M8 153 a couple of seasons ago. That said, I've been finding myself riding what I call the grandpa sled (the 2 up) instead of the M8 or Mt Cat. As I said, age does something to you. I now enjoy putt-puttin through the woods on my slow but quiet 4 stroke much more than riding one of the powder machines. I will be 55 this year but I'm still surprised at how I changed over the last few years. I enjoy the scenery, the quiet and the slower pace. I'll likely sell my little used M8 for another quiet 4 stroke but with a longer track to putt-putt through the woods.

camphappyplace - I always say there's enough room out on the trails for any kind of rider!! We met an 82 year old guy in Eagle River - asked him how trails were and he was like, 'well now, I'm not out there tearing it up like you kids but it's been a beautiful day!' Hope that's me - just happy to be out on my sled enjoying the scenery!

You failed to mention how sore you were! The group I ride with is the same way and we are also in our mid 30's.

Age is only a state of mind :). I have two seasons, snowmobiling and water skiing. I change my workout depending on the season. I'm usually the oldest and always have the heaviest sled (4s vs 2s) but still the one waiting ( usually laying on my sled like I'm napping) on the group after the twisties. I kid the guys I don't have to wait for my wife as long as them. The wife and I do 1 week trips, can't afford sore days.
BTW, I'm 49, 5'7", 210lbs and can still run a 6 min mile. WHAT PAIN? (thanks for being shorter than me skylar ;) )

That's awesome! I'm 43, 5'5", 200, and I have no plans of ever running a mile! Let alone in 6 minutes! LOL.
