Things you would have done different when you bought your trailer

I would like to hear from anyone who has purchased an enclosed trailer and found out they forgot to order something or after using it for a while they wish they would have done something different to make it better.

While trying to build a trailer I am amazed at how many options there are and how many upgrades are available.

Just trying to get it right and thought there wasn't a better place to ask the question.

I got a 7x16. I can get 3 short track sleds in it. BUT now we are going to start going out west so I would like to get a trailer that will hold 4 long tracks since I would have 4 adults riding in the truck.

Best scenario is having a decent basic 2 place for local trip and a decked out 7x29 Legend Trailmaster or an aluminum gooseneck. I haven't had much luck on that one though. I LOVE the Trails West 28' RPM GN!!!

Very nice trailer!

I decided on a 7' wide 29' long trackmaster by legend. from what I read from other members in another thread I had regarding this project I should have some room to grow in the 29'.

Never would have thought a non-mountain or two-up sled would have a 144" track. I don't see me buying a 121" track anymore.

It was just nuts looking through all the options and modifications you can do to these things. the legend site has a ton of pictures with really nice trailers, but it just added to my problem. i wanted all the cool stuff.:)

My suggestion would be get it now if you think you're going to want it (ie; length, fuel doors, vents, extra lights, width). I ordered one last year with want I wanted and am satisfied with that decision. Obviously the price goes up but if you're spending 8-12K what's a couple hundred more in the big scheme?

I'm curious to hear the pricing you're getting if you'd care to share? I had noticed pricing on another post of a loaded Trailmaster 27'-29' under 10K from the Milwaukee Snow Show. I was taken back on that as the pricing I recieved last year for the loaded up trailer at the show was $13.5! Can't believe Legend drop their pricing?

1) Longer 2) aluminum rims 3) stainless hardware but some type of high end super expensive kind that they probably don't make. 4) some kind of exterior coating that can last 10 years and still look new 5) a garage ( heat- lights-hot & cold water- floor drains ) large enough to store it in to protect it from the elements. 6) lots of vents that can be closed or opened as needed 7) a fold down bench seat or a couple of them that will fold out of the way when needed ( for putting on gear & boots ) 8) fold in / out hooks for gear & helmets some thing with a base plate that is below the surface of the trailer wall so when folded in it is flush 9) an exhaust fan with a switch ( commercial grade lots of cfm's ) 10) a mount for a Bubba Keg or Big Green Egg "smoker" on the outside so you can get it going when you leave in the morning and come back & feast... of course might as well add a lock on the cover with a " booby trap " in case someone wants to help themselves to your BBQ. Bought mine in 05 and it doesn't look terrible, but i wish it would have held up better . If you wash it... the exterior panels scratch. I do like the heater in " mvepedo's ".
The trailers and options really have come a long way over the last 5 years .

The number #9 option is a MUST if you have the old 2-strokers!!!! Have to hold my breath in there while unloading sometimes!

A good friend of mine bought 1 ( don't know the size or model exactly) in 08 and he paid 16K. I don't see prices dropping either. Might depend on what exactly " loaded " is.

Harski,

I will share once I'm done negotiating with the dealer. I will say I'm working with "MSRP" right now so the #'s are high. For example, the base MSRP for a LS7X29TA35 (7'X29" TrackMaster) is $ 14,064. All the options I want (not need) is adding over $11k. So, they are gonna have to seriously sharpen their pencils...

We haven't started negotiating the price yet. Wanted to work out the details first then get to the fun part, which I hate.

It would be great if anyone could share the discounts they received on their trailers, for example what percent off MSRP their trailer cost them. 15%, 20%, 30%.....

#2 Got it

#4 wouldn't wax help?
#5 In Planning stages now. 50x100 with all of you suggested and maybe even a hot tub! Most requested item from friends and family.
#6 is this due to 2-strokes? If not, why all the vents? I'm running only 4 stroke Yammi's
#7 Interesting, didn't think of that
#9 same reason as #6?
#10 You lost me there! But I would definitely want to be in your group!

As far as washing, don't use those long handled brushes with stones in the bristles and only use Microfiber towels to dry not only the trailer but any vehicle you own. Only way to go.

Thank you for your suggestions.

***Keep in mind this deal I am getting ready to explain was done by a Legend Factory Sales rep, not by a salesperson with Big O trailers. It was explained to me that the people at Big O's may even get mad with this deal but he was wanting to get me into the trailer that best suited my needs so he was really willing to work a deal. A once in a lifetime deal I think!! Let it be known that everyone involved in this transaction has been awesome to deal with and even without having my trailer yet I will confidently say that Legend Trailers and Big O trailer dealership are a top notch crew that have an excellent product!!!

I am the one from the other post that ordered the Legend Trailmaster thru Big O trailers from the Snow Show. I am very happy with my decision to go with the Trailmaster versus what I actually went there to buy. I had intentions on getting a Thunder Series (roughly $5,500) but decided that wasn't for me so I initially ordered a Expolorer Series pretty loaded out. After the show I kept in contact with the dealer and found out they had a promotion on some awesome upgrades if you got a Trailmaster Series and after doing some more research on resale value, customer testimonial's, reading posts on JD and thinking more about how I will use the trailer I decided switch my order to the Trailmaster. I ordered a 2011 TM727 Trailmaster and here is what I got, all of the items listed in the attachment at bottom plus:

(I believe these were the options in the promotion - pretty good ones)
*Stainless Steel Cam Bars on Front and Rear Ramps (HUGE UPGRADE!!)
*Deluxe Interior (HUGE UPGRADE!!!)
*Aluminum Tread Plate Kickplate over wood 24"Tall

My options:
*Aluminum Wheels (this may have been in the promotion also but can't remember)
*Radial Tire Upgrade
*Add- One Fuel Door (total of 2)
*Add- Spare Radial Tire on Steel Rim

*Customer Pickup at factory (Saved me a $500 freight charge - good savings)
*Color: Pewter

I am having the "person entry door" put on the "street side" for some really good reasons that I explained in the other post. I am also thinking about adding some shelving and maybe one more roof vent to this order and need to let them very soon if so. I plan to mount a propane heater to the inside wall. Basically that is what I will have by Thanksgiving!!

Here's why I think you notice the difference in price... The Snow Show Legend Trailmaster this year was a $16,000+ retail trailer that was also quoted to me for somewhere around $13. I can't remember what all it had for seats/shelving and other interior upgrades but I know it had more than what I am getting. Also one big upgrade it had over mine is the multi-color exterior panels, mine is one color - Pewter (won't show dirt/salt and matches one of my tow vehicle's). I am sure there is other things it has over mine but I just couldn't swing the price so I really didn't care. Another factor that could be in play here is I am paying cash for the trailer, no financing. Don't know if that made any difference but it could I guess. I think I got an awesome price on an awesome sled trailer and I couldn't be happier with the whole experience, just don't expect to get this deal anywhere, anytime because it was done with a person direct with the factory that was at a show to sell trailers, period.

This should clear up any questions about my deal and I hope everyone is happy with their trailer purchase this year. LET IT SNOW!!!!

#4) didn't think of that ( thanks for the suggestion )
#6) I noticed during a mid summer fire em up, that the venting was inadequate due to it being hotter inside at the top of the trailer. Just some more vents to let the rising heat out better as my trailer & sleds seemed to bake . It must have been 120 with the sun beating on it. Maybe under trees would be better.
#11) Generator ??? ( Honda of course )
#12) 1 of these ( see pic ) with a trouble light on the end all wired in with strap to secure it when not in use

OK. I understand #6 better. I won't be storing mine in the trailer so that makes sense. I'm actually trying to keep mine warmer in the winter. It comes with ventilation, just didn't think I needed more.

Skeedoo,

Glad you were able to crack the reps on pricing. I can admit that I'm a bit jealous and wish I had run into that person myself! Funny thing is I heard previous to the show (last year again) that pricing was going to be in the 9K range and when I got there they quoted me 13K+. I was disappointed in what they qouted so I spent my money elsewhere.

Congrats again.
