thinking about parting sled or not.

I have a 96 xlt and am tired of messing with it. just wondering if parting it out would be worth it or just sell as is? if i do part it out how far do you take it down. i know motor parts can go pretty easy. track is decent shape but do i take it off or just pull motor and sell without it. just wondering. i would like to make a little money on it so i dont take it in the rear too bad. i know i will never get out of it what i have in it. any thoughts would be great thanks.

I know a guy who tears them down, and sells every part he can. I think you will make the most money that way, just that it will take longer.

With a LOT more time involved.

You must ask yourself how much your time is worth unless you really enjoy taking it apart.

pull parts as asked for worth a whole lot more in parts.but sell jugs recoil stator etc etc not the whole motor unless you don't have the time to dink around.I would think a parted xlt would get close to 2k with some time involved.I think the shipping is the worst part of parting sleds so be sure it will fit in a flat rate box and then add a few bucks for having to run to the post office a few times a wk

I went through this with my 01 SRX that had a chunk of the tunnel missing and 8,000 miles on an engine that had never been opened. I ended up selling it to BK Boat and Sled for more than I though I would have gotten selling it whole. I could have made more selling it part by part but there is a lot of time into taking the sled apart, advertising parts, answering questions, shipping the item etc. Very happy with the deal they made me.

FYI, you can print your own postage, and your mail carrier will pick up those flat rate boxes (Priority Mail) on their regular rounds, or you can schedule a pickup when you print the postage.

1. Print your own postage with USPS on-line Click 'n Ship®. (Requires MS Explorer, it does not work with Firefox!)
2. You will need an accurate scale; if you don't have one, order one here. (Free shipping.)
3. If you need self-stick shipping labels, buy'em here. (Free shipping.)
4. If you prefer, forget the scale, and use Prepaid Forever® Priority Mail Flat Rate™ Packaging.

Pay less postage with Click 'n Ship® than at the post office, and Delivery Confirmation™ is included at no extra charge (Exception: postage rates for Prepaid Forever® Priority Mail Flat Rate™ Packaging are not discounted, but Delivery Confirmation™ is included at no extra charge.)

I do this all the time, it sure beats running to the Post Office and standing in line!

I have sold some parts, mainly just getting rid of brand new components that I modded. I ended up running around, answering e-mails, dealing with some hoople heads ect... I did it ... well I'm not sure why BUT !!! be rest assured that I literally gave the stuff away to help out other snowmobiliers and didn't really think it was worth it. TO me , I would part with it whole or make a deal with someone like BK, or whatever.... They are best set-up to make money on these type of situations, they incur the inventory carrying costs ect... Otherwise you may have the sled pieces sitting for months or years....

You might as well be one of us diehards.... buy high and sell low ( LOL )
I just love the snow !!!!!

I'm not interested but, does the sled look like anything? Does run well? What kind of miles? The reason I ask is last year I sold my 98 XLT Touring with 5K miles on it for $2400.00. I mean it was an extremely clean sled. What I'm sayin is, if the sled is in respectable shape, save yourself the time parting, answering phones, emails, sitting on parts for years hoping for that one person to find you and just unload the whole sled. Advertise it here on JD, sledswap.com, craigs list, , , there's tons of people looking for used sleds and these days money is short for alot of people. Once the first few flakes start to fly, , game on man!!

sled is in great shape. custom paint and no tears in seat and suspension in good shape too. only prob is motor not running right now and not sure why and i am tired of messing with it. it has newly rebuilt crank shaft/bearings and housing. newer pistons and rings. i think it is fuel related but like i said i am done. i have spent way too much on it and am looking to part with it one way or another. want something a little newer. the sled only has around 3900 miles on it. maybe less cant remember right now. when it ran i loved it. great response and handled awesome. so just looking to get rid of it. if someone offered me around 750 right now for i would take it and never look back. lol (cause i would prob cry if i did) DSCN1183.jpg

To part or not to part … that is the question

You know what they[SUP]1[/SUP] say …

"Parting is such sweet sorrow … "

[SUP]1[/SUP] [Who they? Shakespeare: Romeo and Juliette, also The Shawshank Redemption (1971 film), Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971 film), etc.] :)

Does it have a new fuel filter? A buddy had the same sled and wouldn't run right. Changed many, many, many things like carbs etc. Only to find out a simple fuel filter was the answer.

Jeez, I would think someone would pay $1000 for that at the drop of a hat!! $750 for sure! Personally, I wouldn't part it out, she's too pretty for that. I bet you would sell it whole in no time.
As Polarice said, it could be just something simple that you might be overlooking. After one looks at a problem long enough one can get tunnel vision, happens to every one. Sometime a fresh set of eyes, or brains can go a long way.

well i may give it one more crack to get it running this week. going to take it to grassdrags/swap meet in a couple of weekends, and will try and sell it there. does anyone know of a good website to get carbs back to stock and dial in. i used to know how without looking it up but now i am thinking i am combining different techniques and it is part of my problem. thanks agian
