Yeah, I had issues through Safari too. You can download DDG at app store and follow instructions.
My default browser and search engine are now DDG. Now weather channel, JohnDee, ect no pop ups at all.
I am far from an expert though:oops:

Yes I have done it both on my phone and my laptop. No ads on either device!

Ads have gotten so bad using a mobile site in the last day, they’re taking over the entirety of my screen and no option to close it out, not letting me look at or see anything. I tried DDG and it was the same. I switched to a ”desktop” site on my phone and it shrunk The size of the ads enough that I can still use the site with no issues. 😢

I noticed the exact same thing.

When you change to DDG make sure your default browser and search engine goes through DDG. I had same issue until I changed that.
I use DDG now instead of google and I have no ads at all.

I spend quite a bit of time on a Weber grilling/smoking forum that looks to be the same platform, no ads whatsoever. This site is overrun w them. probably just paying the bills but it’s tough to navigate. if anyone else is a bit psycho about grilling and smoking food a cool resource is www.tvwbb.com

Thanks for the link, I'll bookmark that for later. I don't do much with either the grill or smoker during the winter but come Spring we'll get things "cookin" again. :)

I can understand the ads for revenue but why does the same ad appear 4 times in a row vertically, just an obscene amount of ads. I know, switch to DDG, shouldn't have to do that.

I've had the same experience as others. I tried to make a post from my cabin last weekend and couldn't even get it to load with all the ads popping up. I'll try DDG i guess.

Well the website was down again for a few days from what I could tell. It seems like almost all week.

I did some digging around and I think I found some info. I am not sure how this stuff works so my info. my not be correct.

I believe this website is hosted by Amazon Technologies Inc. aka Amazon Web Services AWS. Yes AWS is owned by that AMAZON and is located in Seattle. Of course there is no phone number that I can find but they want you to sign up / log in and create a ticket with a case number.

I don't think I am the best person to contact those people or create a case ticket. Maybe one of the moderators would want to do that?

A long long time ago when this site, the internet, and times were different, I thought the guy that did all the IT for this site was one of JD's hockey buddies. I don't know if that guy is still around or would have any interest. I thought his very old user name had a number in it like ____5600 but I can't remember and that was on the old site.

There also was someone else that posted on here recently that had retired from the IT industry and thought they might possibly be able to help.

Anyway maybe this can help keep the website up and running.

Actually I need to clarify only on the Discussion Board was down not the whole website. So maybe the above info. cannot help.

I see now Mezz mentioned XenForo. Maybe they host just the discussion board and the rest of the site is on something else. I don't know how this works.

Just reading the thread... so is the issue really more that someone needs to have access (and ability) to access the hosting account and "fix" issues from time to time? What kind of traffic does the site still support? I see there is forum traffic but the website itself is stale content. Just asking as I am soon to retire from that 'world of IT' and may have time to help if it's sustainable.

Yes, the frustration continues with the Discussion Boards unavailability. This is the feature that suffers on the website, everything else is accessible but, contains nothing new. The rampant overabundance of ads continue, worse on mobile devices, but, still a huge issue no matter the device used. The DIscussion Board is the active part of the website & It was down Tues, then back up for a very short period on Wed, then down again on Thursday. I was glad to see the discussion board was available today, for how long? Your guess is as good as mine.

I don't understand why we can connect with other parts of the forum but not the Discussion board. BTW, I'm seven generations past this computer stuff. My oldest son, a computer whiz, would get mad at me when I would call him about a computer issue. I would just say "I don't understand." You hear the impatience on the other end of the fone. Finally I asked him if he could read or understand Greek or Hebrew. His answer was, "no." I promptly responded, "That's computer language for me." Nuff said. All is well with our conversations now.:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
