I think I am going to be sick to my stomach. Been wanting to get up north with my boy all winter. Basketball, work and everything else are always in the way. Now its all going to melt away before the weekend. Man, we can't win.
Please John, say it will get cold and snow again, please!
Thanks

Well, I can tell you this, the Kee has plenty of snow. If the day looks to be a warmer than usual day, start earlier, plan your wooded trails, all is good. To predict exactly what conditions are going to be more difficult than predicting the weather. Some times you just have to look at the outdoor thermometer & out the window. I don't believe there is a single business up here that would "guarantee" you conditions in order to get your business. Got snow, come ride it....-Mezz

Yeah because the businesses up there will give an honest opinion. LOL. I trust real opinions and reports from this site more than I do anyplace else. That's why I asked.

what surprises me is i offered u information on another thread before you posted this or made plans..u could have had info on perfect trails and conditions from somebady thats been HERE..u either didnt see it or blew it off..too bad

no way! im already worried about the traffic and all the people that will probably be in the area this weekend... i started out going north to wis 20yrs ago. then started heading NW to get away from everyone. then to a nother location after that. seems more and more people ride where they never did before. im running out of areas, so please everyone! stay home and grill instead its going to warm up and melt! winters over

Yeah. Didn't see it. I'll look you up next time. Will the Hawks make a deadline deal?

I love exploring new areas. I'd say half of the enjoyment I get is from riding a trail for the first time. I'm not an off-trail guy, so it is somewhat of a challenge to keep finding new areas. I won't follow you this weekend. I've got some nice skirt steaks for the grill.

Thanks Mezz. I might be doing just that, and heading to the UP.

Airline tickets bought months ago. We'll be in 'da yoop Wednesday to Wednesday and make the best of it. Seasonal roads/old logging roads and lakes may be the place to be for us this year. Hoping for the best.

I spent Feb. 5th-10th last week in Greenland, Michigan. I live in a SW Mpls. suburb so we drove up to Duluth to Superior across the top of Wisconsin on hwy 2 into Ironwood to Bergland to Bruce Crossing and then to Greenland. I rode in all directions while there, Ontanogon, Bergland, Bruce Crossing, Sidnaw, Twin Lakes, Houghton, Eagle Harbor....

The best snow cover IMHO is from Greenland/Mass City and north. Greenland has about a 4' base and gets better as you go north. Down by Bergland it was more like a 2' base but the trails were beat. Down by Ironwood it was maybe an 15-18" base. Across Wisconsin it was fairly lousy IMHO. Maybe a few inches but not great. Iron River looked very thin and gets worse as you head towards Superior which has grass showing.

Whats a good place to drop for a day in Greenland/Mass City?...
We're staying in Minocqua starting thurs, not to worried about thurs but I'm not sure how trails are going to hold out Fri and Sat in Wi. Its our only trip this year, going to try and make the best of it.

If it actually hits 48 on Saturday as forecasted it's going to suck. The last meltdown was brutal.

It will really impact the lower elevation in-town trails through Houghton & Hancock. Last thaw they held it together, although it had a big impact, hopefully they can make it through another thaw, but the sun is that much stronger and we didn't have a ton of rain last time (Some areas did though). We will see, hopefully temps are colder than what they are predicting, and this thaw doesn't last quite as long. A day here and there is one thing, but the duration of these thaws is what really has an impact.
