Time to Throw in the Towel - UGH!

There's just too much fun in the UP to give up - New years eve plus a few days for us. Travelodge let's negotiate. Joey's seafood is a must. The Library, Downtowner and Pilgrim River for a steak. Then we'll drive up through Eagle River - love the falls. Then it's north to the Tamarack Inn, they've always treated us well and have excellent food at reasonable prices. Next stop is to watch to boarders over at Mt. Bohemia. Then it's back down to Bleachers in Hancock. It's just our thing - we will be at the sister bar in Westby, WI tonight. We traded shot ski's with them two years ago and they are always friendly folk. Andrea the owner of Bleachers in Westby is working on a bus trip for the Norwegians to visit the Fins in Hancock, MI. We gotta move some money to these parts folks - it's a tough gig up there without we sledders. At minimum it sounds like we'll be able to ride across the bridge and back. :) At least that way we can unload the sleds, fuel and oil up, ride until we're beat and load back up.

not gonna lie to anyone, it's still no where near ideal conditions. We basically have a 40 mile stretch from Greenand to South Range, 13 in poor shape if you look at the 36 miles of it. 109 rough and thin, Mr Freeze was down the Freda Loop a few days ago and says it's a mess. We still need 2 ft to get er in nice shape everywhere. I still maintain it's how you look at things. If your more than 200 miles away and plan to stay for 3 plus days, forget it. I have a friend coming up tomorrow and staying 7 night. He just loves to ride and has fun. He was here a few weeks ago right before the warm up and in general was satisfied, enough so to justify coming up tomorrow. OM Dave is single and comes up by himself, he loves to ride. Like some say, a day of riding is better than a day of work.

Three bad seasons in a row is really depressing. I always wanted to get into ATV'ing and it is a lot cheaper than snowmobiling. Hmmmmmmm!

Last year around this time there was massive rain. It's the basically the same as last year, only no mega rain storms. I had to cancel last year's trip.

Earlier this week we went up anyway. Did some fishing (caught none) and some drinking. We went to Sidney's in Munising. There were only 2 people in there. We ordered the special. It was super hot and good. It always makes me wonder how the food will be when no one is in there.

We drove to Twin Lakes and got to ride at least a little bit. 50 miles we thought would be better than none but we ended up putting on 120. 50 of them were utterly terrible.

We're going to come up on the 30th anyway. I just saw that accuweather was calling for 6 storms from Christmas till New Years. It's not for sure of where they will hit from the Pacific though. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed and think snow.

Even if you go to a hotel for a few days, it's better than being at work!

Can I join you? Always wanted to ride from Miami down to Key West. This may be the winter to do it the way it is going.

Left the Antigo area Friday morning for Greenland. Got there midmorning, parked at Pat's. Rode the Twin lakes loop North from Pat's. The trail was un-groomed, but rideable. Enough snow for cooling & the hyfax. Snow got better closer to Twin Lakes, trail was groomed about the last 8 miles to the BN trail. Stopped at the Mesquito Inn for a bowl of soup, usually there are maybe two selections on the menu, he had four. Decided on the chili, wife on potato soup, both very good. Over the years (many years) have been by there on both the snomo & Gold Wing, but never stopped. A very nice pit stop. From there we headed to Houghton, turned around at the top of the hill and headed back to Pat's. The BN trail was excellent all the way. 110 miles, got the break-in oil in two Adventures pretty much used up.

90s,

I have to ask what your initial thoughts are on the Adventure. I'm just waiting to try mine out.

Thanks,

Mark
