To stud or not to stud?

FYI to get rid of the overheating on hard pack trails...you pull over and cut a block of snow maybe 6 to 10 inches deep and 18 inches wide by 2-1/2 feet long depending on length of sled and you put that on the rear tunnel on top in rack or whatever ya got to keep it on there....then as you ride it melts the block and cools the coolant in exchanger under there with no overheating for miles of smiles...rinse and repeat as needed along the way

unless you own a m

again studs are great if running hard pack or ice
not really needed if you run soft sno w all the time .if a,sled has studs in nice shape call it a bonus .

if a rider is relying on studs to save their life, then they need to slow down. All studs are good for is tearing up trailer and garage floors.

try going from 100 to 0 without them..good fkn luck

studs only on trail..no way no how..

when i got my 8's..kip hadda order them in..rode a day without them..was the scariest day i have ever rode

cant change my style..fast hard and nasty..studs r the only way to go

Been riding since 1967 and with today's longer tracks [129-144] and taller lugs haven't studded a track since 2005, do all my riding in western UP.

a guy on another site uses a tag line that reads: Studs are like training wheels, once you learn to ride you can take them off.
Perfect - LOL!!!

I've never seen the need to go 100 mph on a trail. I respect other riders and my own life too much.

It’s a traction aid, folks. Are we also inferring all kinds of things also about those crazy folks with knobbies on their ATV/UTV/dirtbike, and the guy running snow tires on his family SUV?

Definitely a personal choice whether you'd want them or not for me I've ride more without studs than with, when I ran studs I loved having them could go into the icy corners with more control and confidence, out on the lakes they were nice for stopping and also not skidding sideways etc, I don't run them anymore because it was a pain putting mats down on the trailer and my shop floor was beat up also a main trail I ride mile from house to get out is asphalt and you can't run studs on it that was a big factor I believe there's a few trails in MN that are like that, it is definitely a difference in the way you ride with studs or without both fun for me just pros without studs we're better than cons

yeah that is what all the pro snow x and CC race teams say . if only they had the skill to run with out studs

I got news for ya.....I ran unstudded and beat an ice racer ( his studded skidont) at eagle river rather easily....we ran the streets to and he could not keep up with me....if the factory teams had the cajones to ever try it they would know that there are not needed now that the computer figures the lug patterns....they would be faster on take off and all around MPH without all that extra mass....most racers could hit 105 and I hit 108 in straights.....if I would of ever won the center podium at eagle river then you would of known that studs are useless and a waste.... I blew me engine practicing the nite before event so I was out....no one has beat me yet and many have tried...900's and even a 1000 mach....nuthin'....so bring it on stud boy and I shall school you and give you red cheeks from embarrassment...LMAO

One ride down an icy hill backwards was all I needed. Have had studs ever since. I have 7300 mile on my current set on my 2006 700 Saber Cat.
