To the thief in Hurley WI

To all the honest people out there. I would love for you to be on the lookout for my helmet. I knew better, but my friends and I ended up at one of the fine businesses in Hurley. At the very end of the night, a "situation" took place where some locals and some snowmobilers got in an altercation. We were not involved in any way. But during the "event" my helmet disappeared from the shelf. There was a lot of pushing and shoving going on. Inside the helmet were my Klim gloves and Klim balanclava.

I'd also like to say thanks to the Hurley police. People not involved were telling them how it happened, but they chose to take the side of the locals who started the whole thing.

So to the douche bag that took my stuff, I appreciate it. To the Hurley police, you are useless.

It was cold, but I'm glad we're staying in Ironwood and the ride wasn't long.

If anyone see someone with a Ski Doo modular helmet with custom paintings on it, its mine. Both paintings were done by Taz. There's an American Flag with skull and crossbones on the back, and then a very unique picture of a monkey on there also. If you see the helmet, you'll understand.

If you see this guy, KICK HIS *** and dump him on the side of the trail.

I can always buy new gear. But to just be suck an *** and take someones stuff..............

A good *** beating and being left out in the snow next to a trail might do you some good.

Sorry to hear about the thievery being brought upon you. I have to say I've been a little worried myself about my new Mod II helmet disappearing off the shelf. Having to ride back a long distance would not be fun. I've placed an extra headsock and gloves in my sled just in case some idiot steals my stuff! You bet the eyes in the back of my head will be on guard for the next year or two (ufortunately) until a newer model comes out and my will be old junk. Karma will get this individual in the long run!

Good Luck!

Yea KARMA will get him, things have a way of being balanced in the world. At least for me, I borrow a piece of scotch pad from work and some utility company sends me a bill for $200 extra ???? I have never felt comfortable setting my helmet & gear down anywhere I can't see it. Just a pet peeve for me. Some eating establishments don't like it so much but I carry my stuff to the table. Sorry for your loss.

There's an old saying that goes, "Nothing Good Happens at 2:00 in the Morning".
Times that by Ten if you're in a Pole Bar at closing time. (been there myself on occasion)

We know it's common for dozens of Helmets and Gear to be piled up on tables and
I try to keep our gear close at hand but it's really impossible to watch at all times.

That's a unique design with that Monkey Thing going on, shouldn't be hard to pick that out of a crowd. Good Luck, we'll watch for it!

WTD192, can you post a picture of the helmet here?

May help, never know who may see it.

As mentioned, need to try and keep the gear close at hand.

Not sure if sled or homeowner's insurance would cover the loss?

What's up with these scum bags stealing s--t , trailer, sled's from driveways ,helmet to screw the guy on his way home .I know times are tough ,but grow some fnnnnn brains ...sorry to hear that bro
I LEARNED(the hard way) never leave gear or truck's unlocked or ect,ect .DONT TRUST ANYONE !!!!Up there it's to easy to say it wont happed here with all the beatiful nature and friendly people(for the most part)that there is scum praying on our equipment . I dont think the locals have anything to do with the majority of theft's .
PS get a pic up of your helmet ill differently keep an one out

Thanks for all the responses. Here are a couple pix, they're from far away but if you can zoom up you can see the skull and crossbones and the flag, I don't have a pic of the Monkey tho. I'm the one on the right in the one pic.

We had a guy in our group have his sled stolen in Hurley a number of years ago. We had line our sleds up side by side with a couple of sleds across the front. The thieves moved the front sleds to get the one they wanted in the back. Hurley can be a fun town, but I sure have heard alot about theft in that town. Can't be to careful with your stuff.

I've had drive belts stolen from under the hood, so now I carry only used ones on the sled.

X2 It seems there are a few A holes in that town. The night my belts were stolen I saw fresh tracks around my locked trailer. Should have had the sleds in the trailer. A few people ruin a hole towns reputation, including the police who don't care about tourist getting riped off.

I try not to go to those "destination" places to ride. I prefer the backwoods set up where you can leave stuff on a table because everyone is there for the same reason...to have fun with friends. Screw Hurley, too many putzes

I think it would be fun to have a bait sled and gear, that way when someone takes it we can track them down and tar and feather the faulkers

Sorry to hear about your helmet !! you might want to start watching E-bay or Craigs list -- yuper one , Northern Wi. one or Wausau one , Green bay also .. There has been alot of gear on there lately from in the area's ! I dont know what to think anymore Yaaa Easy cash for sombody I guess . Put it on for 1/2 of new it will only last one hr on Craigs list ect ect . All those Snowmobiles and trailors being taken -- Chop shop part the sled out cut the tunnel Apart Aluminum ,, as for trailors well the tags would be easy to remove Here in wi. We are not required to register the trailor so in reality how many trailors are out there selling for a low price that are truely not stolden ..?? Saying this no one is really pertected Unless you have a devise on your sled that you can Track It like ON STAR in chev vehicles as for trailors the Tire boot sounds to be the best even when on your vehicle . As for gear Take it with you keep it on the floor next to you have buds watch it ect ect . If your tripping on your sled a lock set up that you can tie two or more sleds togeather would be a good idea .. I use kind of a bike lock its about 1 inch round has a pin style lock cant saw threw it cant freeze it cant remove it without a key we all back our sleds togeather and tie the rear grab bars or a arms togeather enough for 2 or 3 sleds to tie togeather . Good Luck hope you find the Jerk !!

Bait Sled Hmmm -- Reality Not to be Mean Tracking system installed like FBI uses . Ski doo or Cat big dowg sled same on trailor so if seperated you can still track both . inside a helmet put same tracking system . if it ever would be taken you could find it .. That would rattle the crooked cops cage out there !! Sir I have A traking system on my Equipmet Track the Person down Arest them Put them away for long Time for grand theft .. Just My thoughts !!

Sorry to be the devil's advocate here, but Gary hits a point often lost among the snowmobiling community.

Park the sleds at camp, find a dd (or even better, walk), and then hit up the watering hole. No gear to get stolen, no loud pipes to wake up the neighbors and no buddy wrapped around a tree on the way back.
