Night grooming is probably the most ideal way to groom, but there are a lot of factors that go into it and the simplest is having people that want to go out at night. Next is temperature not for setting up the snow but because of potential equipment problems, no one wants a breakdown middle of night with -10 or colder. And many more reasons but biggest is getting drivers to go out real late.
Yes I remember my Hubby breaking down in the middle of the night, chains falling off etc. Back in the day it was a safety issue, sleds can see a groomer at night ( headlights on the tractor on corners and approaching hills)better than daytime. I enjoyed passing him at home in the hallway as I headed out in the morning knowing where the trails were freshly groomed and set up.
