I have been preaching for years that in Wisconsin you can register your sled with the WDNR as a non-resident (online), this cost $30 dollars and is good for 2 years. They have a quick turn around on your paper work, you receive 2 tags (1 for each side), they send you a renewal notice in the next spring and they state that more money goes to the trails and the best part is no more searching for a trail pass vendor when you're unloading and trying to ride...

This is why the system in WI is "broke"... Something needs to change because clubs are operating in the RED. Maybe if the grooming is cut in half or signs and post are not replaced when needed clubs wouldn't be out so much money.

Even though the economy is getting better times are still tough for a lot of people. Fortunately in WI you can ride for the least amount of $$$ vs. our neighboring states to the east and west!

This is what I do. Makes no sense to me why they do it this way, but it works for me. I ride primarily in Wisconsin and MI. I register the sled in Wisconsin for $30 every other year and then buy a trail permit in Michigan for $45 each year.

Wisconsin trail system= 25,000 + miles @ $35/yr N/R or $30- 2/yr for registered, Michigan trail system = 6,300 + miles @ $45/yr.... I'm sure that has nothing to do with funding discrepancies but a system that cuts down on cost by having multi year passes does.

No, in WI your WI registration is your trail pass weather a resident or not, however non-residents must still have a valid registration in your home state, unless your WI registration has a Wisconsin address then you are treated as a resident.

For non-residents, you just have to list a county. I pick Villas, since we most often ride out there (my in-laws have a place near Phelps). I don't register my sled in Indiana, as I never use it here.

I register my sled in both Wisconsin and Minnesota. A lot cheaper and I don't have to look for a trail pass. When I go to Michigan I buy a trail pass, price doesn't bother me trails are usually in great shape and it's a vacation expense. Makes me feel good to help another state with the sport I love.

colors change from year to year but just a few colors, had purple many time over the years, I like it!
