Tundra, GMC 1500, or 2500HD

Ok here's the deal. I just bought the wife an 09 Yukon XL. While I was at the dealer we started talking about my 07 Tundra Crewmax. I absolutely love the truck but he offered me $32,000 to trade it in for a new Sierra. That's $3000 less than I paid for it 2 years ago. Not a bad deal if you ask me. Its basically going to cost me $3000 for 2 1/2 years of owning it and 25,000 miles.
Through in the 0% financing and I can reduce my monthly payment, still pay it off in the same time frame, and have a brand new truck.

Where I am torn is my Tundra is by far the best truck/large SUV that I have owned. Tons of power, huge torque, pulls my 3 place like it isn't there, and runs smooooooooooth.

So basically I know what I have with my Tundra. And its a great truck! What do you guys think about the Sierra's? I would be getting the SLT2 trim with the 6.0 or 6.2. Help me out here. I'd hate to gamble away my baby and be disappointed in the long run.

Thanks!!

I am a Chevy guy through and through. I bought my 08 Silverado which is my 4th. I LOVE it. They have all been great, never had an issue other than the basics: tires, brakes etc. This is just my experience, not saying anything else. That being said, if you are happy with what you have, stick with it.

I no longer have any trust, faith or confidence in General Motors (GM), now known as "Motors Liquidation Company". This decision is not reached lightly as my family has been loyal to GM since the 1930s. The government should not have rescued GM and Chrysler or for that matter the banks. Kudos to those other manufacturers who refused bailout money but are now at a competitive disadvantage since they remain saddled with debt while we, as taxpayers, have relieved the debt load for GM and Chrysler through bailout funds.
Bad management and products should not be rewarded.

I have never owned a foreign truck or car, but it seems like there is a reason why they have so much interest your truck . I say keep it and the cost of ownership will continue in your favor, especially compared to your other option.

I dissagree with weatherjan. GM stil makes some of the best products on the market. None of the automakers around the world saw the collaps of the finincial institutions which is the cause of the automakers needing a LOAN from the goverment. It has happend for years, when the car companies have needed money in the past, they have always borrowed from the banks and paid it back when the market bounced back. The only difference is this time the banks wouldn't loan anyone any money, that is why the us automakers went to the goverment for a loan. And as a side not Toyota is is worse finincial situation then GM is, and the Japineese goverment gave them more money to stay afloat then GM and Chrysler got. Most automakers around the world have gotten a goverment money given to them or loaned to them to stay afloat from what ever country their headquaters is. I believe that Ford and Honda are the only two that did not take any money and even Ford asked that the money be available it they needed it.

Now that I got off on that tangent, I have driven several Chevy trucks and have always been impressed with them. Two of the guys I snowmobile with have them and have never had any trouble that I know of. I like my dodge the best, but that is why I bought it. Now to be fair I have never driven a Toyota.

Keep the Tundra!

Never trade a vehicle in to a dealer.

Why do you think the dealer is giving you so much for it? He's gonna turn around and sell it for even more. If you really want a new truck, sell the Tundra outright.

Personally, I have bought GM products for the past 20 years, but after the bailout, NEVER AGAIN!

What happened to the free market principles that made this country great?

I wouldn't let the bailout money affect your decision. That money will not make the truck bad, as Mark said there is a lot more too it. I have always owned GM and will continue, but I have heard a lot of great things about the Toyota trucks. My opinion would be to keep your truck you have if your 2 years into it, plus it will last a long time. Starting over on a new payment book sucks. Good luck to whatever you decide.

The main question I have about Toyota is how can they be so much better? Let me explain!! They claim they have bigger and better brakes, tranny, motors, tranfer cases, rear ends an so on. If that is the case I'm sure the parts cost more. And the price of the trucks are comparable to US trucks so what are they going cheap on? How do they make money?

I remember Toyotas of the past, they ran forever but the bodies rusted off of them. Is that the case now, again? Is that where they went cheap? Time will tell....

Wow, wow, woooooow!

If you think the Yukon, is a bad truck, maybe then think about this question, but in MY mind, anytime you can drive a truck/suv for 25000 miles and move up in years for $3k...you have to have rocks in your head not to do it.

Toyota builds a nice truck but they break, wear out and have issues just like everything else does....they don't drive (walk on water) and the fact is whether you like (and I don't) what GM did or not doesn't get you a cup of coffee in the final analysis. It all comes down to what you can live with and money.

While the toyota might have a good reputation, they are still just a bunch of bolts and fluids moving around and getting you down the road.

100,000 mile drive train warrantee, ZERO miles to start with and you are even thinking about this????

You will always find guys who think THEIR SLED is the best, their TRUCK is the best, and ARE either FORD people, DODGE people, or GM people....truth be told their isn't much difference between any of them, and you can always catch a lemon, or one that goes till the doors fall off...depends on how you use them, where you take them, and how you maintain them...and a big old scoup of luck.

One exception is that even if the dealer is bending over to make a deal and gett'n you near what you paid for the truck...like any other car/truck dealer, pay far more attention to the "spread" which is the difference between whatcha got to pay to get back into a new unit. If he gives great tradin value, but doesn't knock off the top of the new one, then he didn't actually give you a great deal on the trade in did he??? But other than that....

TAKE THE DEAL AND FORGET ABOUT IT....

btw, that 6 liter sucks a bit of juice but has been around longer than steel belted tires, so the bugs are pretty much removed and it is a decent truck. Like the guy says, go drive one and take them up on the bring it back if you're not happy program, and whatcha got to loose.....and if you're still silly, go buy another Toyota, and chaulk it up as a learning experience.

AND DAHTS ALL I GOT TO SAY ABOUT IT....

I've got a 05 Denali 6.0 liter Crew Cab Pick up with full time all wheel drive. I wouldn't trade it for anything. The all wheel drive is the best. I drove my 98 Tahoe once last winter and didn't have it in 4 wheel drive and it was horrible to drive. You don't know how nice the all wheel drive is until you drive something without it. Get the all wheel Denali.

if the tundra is doing what you want it to do and you like, why change. Don't let the money take your baby away, the GM may be a pile, maybe not. You already know what you got

Like you said: lower payments, paid off in same timeframe, Very small upgrade cost. It will tow your sleds and help out Detroit. 25000 miles for $3K?, get those deals while they last cause when this economy picks up you ain't gonna see those deals again. And then you'll just have a old smelly jap truck. Just think how nice it will be to go out and drive without that bag over your head!
