Tundra, GMC 1500, or 2500HD

My vote... keep the Tundra, put that $ into a turbo or a supercharger for your Nitro!

Anyone here see the new Toyota recall? Just what I thought... Look up about 13 or 14 posts?

They are recalling 110000 trucks in "cold weather" states because of frames rusting and also because the spare tire might rust off!

Great input guys!

I have decided to keep the Tundra for now.

I am however VERY interested in the 2011 F-250 with the 6.7 Diesel.

My dealer is going to have them in March or April.

CD whats your point?

ALL the manufactures have issued recalls. That one affects 110,000 vehicles that are 7 - 10 years old.

Here's one that affected 12,000,000:
Feds warns Ford owners about recalled vehicles

WASHINGTON (AP) — The government is urging owners of 5 million recalled Ford vehicles to bring them to dealerships to repair a cruise control switch system that has been tied to engine fires.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on Tuesday issued a second consumer advisory to owners of certain unrepaired Ford, Lincoln and Mercury sport utility vehicles, pickup trucks, vans and passenger cars who have not responded to previous recalls.

NHTSA said about 12 million vehicles have been part of the recall and nearly 5 million still have not been fixed. A similar warning was issued in February but officials said the rate of the vehicles being repaired has declined.

The recalls have affected Ford's popular F-Series pickup trucks and led to hundreds of complaints and dozens of lawsuits over engine fires.

Heres one that affected 200,000+ GM trucks:

Recall Date
DEC 17, 2007

Model Affected
2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO

Description
CERTAIN FEDERAL-MOGUL REPLACEMENT WHEEL HUB ASSEMBLIES WITH THE BRAND NAMES: NATIONAL, CARQUEST P/NOS. 515020, 515021, 515025, 515053, 515054, 515059, AND 515060, SHIPPED BETWEEN JANUARY 23, 2006, AND DECEMBER 20, 2007, SOLD FOR LIGHT DUTY AND MEDIUM DUTY TRUCKS. THE INBOARD RETENTION NUT USED TO MAINTAIN HUB BEARING ASSEMBLY CAN LOOSEN RESULTING IN AN ABS LIGHT INDICATION, NOISE, AND/OR WHEEL SEPARATION.

So am I to take it that you feel rust is more serious than an engine fire or wheel separation?

You'll be get'n the recall for the floormat on the 07 soon... Personally I gots 3 to go back for the speed control yet and so far nuth'n on the 06 Tundra yet lol I can't win...

Yeah I got that one. It baffles me though. Evidently its a result of people using a sencond set of floor mats (usually all weather) and the slide up on or under the accelerator. If you use the stock mats with the retaining clip it shouldn't be a problem. The point is nothing is perfect....except for maybe your 06! ;-)

mvedepo, on your profile, whats that button to your left? Wasn't sure.

I believe that is either the anti-stahl control or anti-spin control button. I know on a cesna 172 spin control is achieved by letting go of the stick and holding both door handles firmly for 15 seconds.

this thread is more so an indication that was are men, lol, seriously. None of us are engineers or really have a sense of what makes one better than another. I have a friend who is 22 years old, he told me he was a die hard GM man and I lmao, 22 years old and still does not change his oil nor know where the air cleaner is but is a die hard. He told me his dad was so I guess that is more so the deal. Similar to sleds this is. I have owned 3 new GM trucks since 88, 3 used, 2 new Ford trucks and 2 used. From a reliability issue they were both very good and that's no BS, late 80's GM had some rear end clunks and bad trannies, fords coil packs seem to be a consistent issue. I would hesitate to buy either one. I kinda have hard feelings against ford for steeling my father-in law patent but other than minor issues I'll continue to buy either. I have had 2 used dodges and I actually liked them also. They worked great, as good as the rest

When it comes to trucks the frame they sit on is very important. In order of Frame robustness it is Ford, GM, and the Toyota hands down. I have always been skeptical of the Toyota full size trucks with respect to lasting when they are really used for work. Part of the answer is in the latest recall. They all have issues but this is a big one. So bad they are telling them to pull the spare tires for fear they will fall out when going down the road. I have worked in the Auto business in engineering for 20 years and have learned a few things along the way.

Even after the downturn, Ford views the F-Series as their flagship vehicle. It has top priority in the company. In my opinion for GM or Toyota this is not the case. The government will not allow it with GM and Toyota has a lot to learn.

Ahh the button on the left. Well there is no stall control or spin control button on the 747. But there are about 200 other buttons. ;-)
