UP Observations

I was up this week in the western UP from 1/23 to 1/26. Overall trails were great. Rode from Bruces Crossing up to Copper Harbor and then stayed at the Ramada in Hancock on Thursday. Friday rode to LOC and then to Lake Gogebic and returned to Bruces Crossing on Friday nite. 400 miles of smiles. Observations as follows:
1) No more need to discuss the lack of signage. Actually it was easier as when there was a turn sign, I figured they meant it. The rest of the time it is called snowmobiling!
2) It was this strange thing they call "snow". Haven't seen this much of it in the last couple of years down in FIB land. We were on south boundary road and it went from full sunshine to cloudy to white out in a matter of five miles. I was like a kid again!
3) The people we met from M&M, Dan's Polaris all the hotels, casino's, bars and resturants and the snowmobilers themselves could not have been nicer, genuinely friendly, helpful and funny. At home, not so much!! Can we bottle this stuff!!
4) Trip cost is greatly reduced when you win $350 on Wed. and $500 at the blackjack table as well on Friday nite in Watersmeet. Never happens. Snirtdawg out........

My observations: North of Twin Lake, everything was good. From Rockland to TL and the loop from Rockland to Ontanogan was ridiculous. The whole town of Rockland had no water on Saturday. Great food at Roxy's in Onto. The Mosquito had good food, but the cook's attitude was crap. Hey, it's Saturday in January and you have snow. People are gonna come in and eat lunch. Get ready for it and be happy that they are there. Henry's famous buffet was a little lacking, but I'll give them some slack because of the water issue. This was my first trip to this area after many years of sledding. I wanted to like it but it was kind of a bad experience. Next time I'd probably stay up near Houghton. I've seen enough of Trail 3.

Munising Area:
Just returned from a 3 day weekend in Munising. In and around Munsing snow was okay but traffic was taking it's toll as the snow was pure sugar. Headed east and went from inches of white stuff to feet :) it was awsome, drove through a white out on Saturday along the shore that left us all smiling. Headed south east from Grande Marais towards Newberry and Seney and the snow just kept getting deeper, solid 30+ off in the sticks. My wife and I managed 400 miles in 2 1/2 days. She was a tropper.
Stayed at the Munising Motel, great people, very friendly, room was great price, clean but the bathroom could use some TLC. I understand some of the rooms have been updated. I would stay their again.
Now if only the weahter will further cooperate.

Don and Donna had their hands full Saturday Morning. 11 am and the place was full without any extra help. We loved it as usual, gotta love the kick to the mosquito burger!

Nope. He was just pissed off because it was busy and they were short on help. That's called the restaurant business. Deal with it!

BLKHWKBOB, Not many business owners would take the time to read your complaint and apologize for your experience. Just shows Don and Donna are class people. I sure hope I can make it back there this season.

Nice response Don.

We ALL can admit to having moments like that, especially in the heat of battle.

I can certainly vouch for you and Donna's character, but the fact that your place is packed every day really says how great a job you all do. People have choices and word travels very fast these days and those running a top notch place thrive and those that just have an open door struggle.

Wish I was at the BUG! A bad day at the BUG is better than any day at work!
