Virtue signaling masks do not protect you.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7680614/ Conclusion The existing scientific evidences challenge the safety and efficacy of wearing facemask as preventive intervention for COVID-19. The data suggest that both medical and non-medical facemasks are ineffective to block human-to-human transmission of viral and infectious disease such SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19, supporting against the usage of facemasks. Wearing facemasks has been demonstrated to have substantial adverse physiological and psychological effects. These include hypoxia, hypercapnia, shortness of breath, increased acidity and toxicity, activation of fear and stress response, rise in stress hormones, immunosuppression, fatigue, headaches, decline in cognitive performance, predisposition for viral and infectious illnesses, chronic stress, anxiety and depression. Long-term consequences of wearing facemask can cause health deterioration, developing and progression of chronic diseases and premature death. Governments, policy makers and health organizations should utilize prosper and scientific evidence-based approach with respect to wearing facemasks, when the latter is considered as preventive intervention for public health.

My friends daughter plays basketball and is in perfect health until our Governor made masks mandatory even for high school athletes. Sadly since wearing continually game after game she has developed asthma. Pretty sad. Another player has asthma and she literally comes off the court during the game crying gasping for air. Super sad and super unnecessary.

???? As surgical masks are to protect the patient.

Well no sh*t...anybody who knows anything at all about science could have told you that from the outset...when the virus itself is literally half the size of the pore in even the highest grade masks, do you really think a "face diaper" cloth one is going to be better? REALLY?

One of the most shocking aspects of this China Virus is how many people buy into the benefits of wearing the masks. It's mind boggling to me.

I'm also shocked that the same people pushing masks are usually the same people who are crying about plastic in the oceans (not that it's good) and pollution (also bad) and aren't saying anything about all the masks on the ground in parking lots almost everywhere you go! I know...it's not supporting their narrative at this point...the hypocrisy is nuts.

This past weekend I attended a brat fry for our local snowmobile club. 200 plus people, food, beer a band. Not a mask wearing bed wetter in site.

Why don't you try reading the article (and the many sourced peer-reviewed papers) before commenting? The author points out that the masks fail to protect anyone from the SARS virus, regardless of the mask type or which person is wearing it. They DO cause harm, without any proven benefit. Do you really think that all of those tiny polypropylene mask fibers going into your lungs will be evacuated or biodegrade? They won't. Do you really think that hypoxia won't harm you? Buy an oximeter, go for a brisk walk while wearing a mask and then without, and see your O2 levels for yourself. Wearing a mask does reduce your blood oxygen to unhealthy levels, especially with increased activity.

Big box stores are or have removed social distancing and arrows from floors in Burlington, WI. Masking wearing is 50-50 by customers. Society is trying to get back to normal as they should.
Ya Kip our gov did the same thing. Basketball players, both girls and boys had to wear masks. Highschool golfers have to wear a mask. While they are outside playing golf. Buuuuuuttttt you wanna roll around on a mat and wrestle another person????? No mask needed. Covid doesn't worry about wrestlers..... Are fn kidding me??? People need to tell papa gumberment to go f themselves!!

Surgical doctors/nurses wear masks to keep droplets/particles out of open incisions, not to block viruses. They also wear them in a sterile environment, and don't wear the same mask across multiple patients. Pretty sure they don't wear a mask that's been hanging off their rearview mirror or stuffed their pocket for who knows how long, either.

Agree, my wife was a nurse for 40+ years. However, the mask is to protect others, not the wearer.

In surgery, yes. But it's not a one-way valve - - if it can stop something from going out, it can certainly stop something from coming in. I fail to see how somebody walking down the street, wearing a mask, with not another soul nearby, is protecting anybody from anything. Or protecting themself. And let's not even talk about those who wear them in their cars (alone).

I'm okay with that. I'm not okay with people looking down on me because I'm not "protecting" them. And I'm certainly not okay with governments telling me I have to.

It's not to protect "others" from a virus, which is proven to be ineffective in numerous studies. But you keep on wearing that "virtue signaling" mask.
