Hate to burst bubbles here, but if you are on JD while at work you are stealing from your employer. I have plenty of time to post on "My time" and so should you. Time theft is the same as material theft. I own my own Companies and that is the view from the "Other side". It is not fair to be here on their dime, period. note: I am still the fun, luvable PR1 and we can disagree but deep down I am right?
I certainly agree with your point on this but I'm going to offer another perspective, at least in my situation and I'm sure there are many others in a similar situation. I'm a salary employee (Plant Engineer) and work boo-coo hours every week including many Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. Example, this past memorial holiday I had Sunday off, worked Saturday and Monday, the national holiday. I don't get a lot of time off during the work week to spend with my family, I answer work related calls at home and I carry a company cell phone so I am available 24/7. I get my job done and I do it with-in budget and on time. I also have alot of responsibility at the plant. I don't take "scheduled" breaks, I adjust my hours to fullfill the needs of this company, including coming in in the middle of night if need be to address a production issue or issues, or as we call them in maintenance "opportunities". I've been in engineering, management and maintenance for many years, I know what is expected and I've accepted the responsibilities that go with this type of position. What I mean by that is normally when the plant is down for hloidays, etc. engineering and maintenance often is the busiest. I browse JD at work every day and I don't feel guilty at all. Of course I know alot of the other managers browse non-work related websites too during the course of the business day.
