Water Heater Issues

I know this is a slightly dated or older thread but I get asked about the newer heaters all of the time and as many of you and I have stated, keep it simple. weather it is propane, natural or eclectically heated, the simpler the better. I know we have had the vapor proof (notice they are not explosion proof) gas water heaters for a while and these "on demand" are nice, the repair cost out weigh the savings. Plain and simple.... not home turn it down or off... Using electric ? Replace the lower element with a "Sand Hawg" type of element. These can run in air without burning up and last forever compared to the factory ones. While the Northwoods and many areas nearby do not have the problems of hard water, these heavy duty heating elements just last and last...

Say what??, How about just calling in a good Plumber/heating guy and just ride?? I had Rheem power vents and they rocked. One for the heated floors and one to keep up with 3 teens.
Skip the "on demands" is what I am told by the plumbers I work with.

Can't add much,ScottB hit everything on the head. I turn the heat off at my camp. I use the hot water heater as a air flask to blow out the water lines. RV anti freeze fore the traps . I save well over 1500 a year in propane. The way I have it set up,it takes about a half hour to winterize. Unless I plan on coming back up right away, it may get winterized 8 times a winter. No need to fret about the heat going out.lol One needs to add air fittings and have an air compressor .
