I remember the 2001-2002 season I didn't take my first trip until February 22, 2002, because of lack of snow and warm weather. Then northern Wisconsin got hit and I was up in Mercer every weekend in March and rode the last day the trails were open. I never remember a season since I started riding in 1980 where was reliable snow in the entire snowbelt all the time. I remember there would be areas that would get reliable snow here and there for a few seasons. It wasn't everywhere for the entire season like some people believe. If that was the case, why would the old timers in the Northwoods talk about the January thaw?

funny story on how I got introduced to JD site in Jan in 1998. Me and buddy trailered up to his place in Athelstane Wis. we get there and there is no snow,, like we're standing in his driveway and were laughing the ground is complete grass. Not eve a dusting. We're like why did we think there wa snow up here? We decide to head to the UP to find snow and we did. Rode the weekend up there.
Come back home and after every trip we'd wrench on our sled and basically just BS at my buddies place who had a bunch of huge green houses he ran in the summer. There was an extra green house we'd work on sleds. He asks us how was your trip,, told him no snow in Wis and had to go to UP. He says to us,,, "why didn't you just go on John Dee.com and check conditions. We were like,,, who?? Huh??
That was my introduction.
