I knew i should have been prepared, but the only snowmobile trip for the year is next weekend (19th) up around the Lake Gogebic area.

this weather is the pits and it's left me struggling to find something else to do or somewhere else to go...

Only plus is i see so far is its a free ice fishing weekend in MI for anyone.

glass half full i guess...

Yep, supposed to leave tomorrow for someplace that has snow that isn't gonna melt by the weekend. The guy's all backed out on me, and now am going it alone I guess.
Had my weeks vacation all set for months, and now this! Ugh!!

while ill agree that this weather is very depressing, all is not lost yet. I read somewhere that both st louis and the twin cities still had on average 30% of their annual snowfall still yet to come as of feb 9th.

hey hey hey, come on people. Why all the negativity, it's not going away. We had a big meltdown already this year and people stayed away. I rode at that time and was better than most people thought. We'll get through this. Keep checking back and see. I wouldn't make a decision to cancel yet. Sometimes these warm days can be a blast. I take mu friends out on logging roads and cook up some burgers, ride the back woods and get the best of time with friends and outdoor scenery.

Days like this

ahh Lenny, always postitive eh?

I know Winter isn't over. I just wanted gobs of snow for my only weekend away this year like i had over New years last year :D

Keep us posted on the conditions. I hope to ride over to the Firesteel bridges from Gogebic one of the days.

Of course this will be all trial riding as the wife will be with, and her Pantera is less than a boondocking sled, more like a Russian tank.

Also Lenny, Thanks for posting those pics of the lower level of the town hall, looks amazing!

X2 it's what you make of it, there are lots of places to ride and fun to be had you just might have to be a little creative

It's not over till the fat lady sings and she's out riding the powerlines. Cleaned and washed the mxz last night then put 30 fresh studs in the indy and topped them both off. This time of the year you need to keep your stuff ready to go.

I'm heading up on the 19th as well, to the UP. I know the weather doesn't look very promising as far as snowfall and temps this week, but It looks to be back to normal starting on the 19th.

The trails, at least most of them, already have at least about a 12" base. The groomers aren't going to stop running because of high temps during the day. It's also going to be cold at night maintaining what is there.

I cancelled my New Years trip because of the RAIN, not the high temps. I wouldn't cancel. Now it also depends on where you're going. I've been told the Lower MI has not got that much snow this year or Eastern UP. Those areas are probably going to be trashed out, or maybe not even.

We rode in Sault St. Marie last year this same weekend and it was good for 2 days and we left a day early. It was like giving the sleds a wash.

Hang in there!

I just drove back today from a weekend in the Keweenaw, there is plenty of snow, although in town around Houghton/Hancock it is getting a little thin. Today we woke up to 1-2 inches of snow and freezing temps which was nice compared to the 36-37 I saw yesterday from Houghton up to Mohawk.

We were up during the New Years thaw, and even got a ride in before the fresh LES got cranking. There is a pretty solid base in the majority of areas, so no worries it will be ok!

I will say that trails really started taking a hit from Crystal falls on southbound through the majority of Wisconsin. I guess Iron Mtn. saw 45 degrees yesterday, and you could definitly tell looking at some of the local trails in that area.

Does the UP keep grooming when temps get to 40ish? We were there last year and it got warm, and they quit grooming. Trails went south in a hurry after that.

catalac: our guys groom at night when the temp has fallen.

I understand many areas have lost or are losing their snow. We have plenty of snow in our area Greenland/Mass City/Twin Lakes and on north that we should get thru this just fine. And those who live here have many times seen a total turn around in the conditions in less than 24 hrs. Our area will do our best to keep you informed under Area Conditions. Also, don't forget to check on the website www.msasnow.org. Click on trail reports and then click on the thumbtack of the area in which you are interested.

I agree... First of all I live in Mexico. During Xmas I came home for a short while and of course it warmed up and rained. So I planned a trip for this week figuring I had the best chance of good snow and well now I am home an we know the story. And my luck gets better in that it has been an abnormally cold year where I am in Mexico.
