What a year.... What a crappy winter...

So this is the first time in my memory that we didn't take a groomer out of the shed all winter... Now it looks like 50 degree temps almost every day next week... I think its over. If it wasn't for the U.P. my 20k worth of sleds would have been idle all winter :-( Still managed a little over 1200 miles but what a joke around home. SE MN. Could have rode in Texas or Tennessee but not in miny freaking sota..... Piss me off.

Been a great season in Vilas lots of snow & cold but warm up & thaw next week bound to change trail conditions. I will be looking for a mid month dumping ,if not, time to wash wax & store the big Apex XTX. Grooming will become an issue in warm temps at this stage of the season. Sure was a punky season south of central WI & why I moved up here where winter is winter. :)

It has been a frustrating year, especially after the great year we had last year. I finally was able to groom this week and will again tonight, but I think that will be it. It's been frustrating to watch areas way south of us get much more snow than we did this year. We can only hope it will be our turn next year! :)

It doesn't help the MN guys, but they are talking about riding through at least mid-April in Ontario, just north of the Soo. If I could put some time and money together, I'd definitely head back sometime this month.

Wish I could swing a new sled right now with the deals going on - but that's life with small kids at home...

My family in Vilas said they put on over 3,500 miles this winter - had snow the whole season. Sucks how it's good some places and so bad others!

Its all about proper perspective. The trails down here have only been open a few days all winter. And look, our local economy hasn't collapsed yet. ;) My main sleds are getting a little older, and never left the trailer. But I dont need to justify their existence anymore. I have accumulated more smiles on my vintage sleds with the grandkids than ever before. And never even traveled off our own property while doing it. For me its been a great year.

It was a pretty tough year for central and south Wisconsin, seemed that the snow started just South of Minocqua. It didn't seem like Minocqua had a lot of snow, just from observations and didn't look at historical averages, but good thing was the cold let the amount they did get to last all winter long. One more trip to Hayward this weekend to ride and watch the snow melt, makes 4 trips this winter with around 1000 miles. Not bad.
I would like to add that the trails around Minocqua were kept in very good shape this year and have nothing but good to say about the work of the local clubs. We do only ride Sunday-Thursday's but we rarely experienced a bad trail for any real length, minus the break down of all the groomers in Eagle River after the derby but that was a rare event.

You get comped a room everytime you mention THEM?
Some people actually like to sled everyday out their backdoor. Not to mention without dropping 2k all the time. Just saying.

Boston had their record snow, next year's Wi, Mn turn!!!!!!

Its 5 out (here) at 10am and Tuesday it is suppose to be in the low 50's
Need to THAW my septic lines to the mound.
Never had snow above the grass blades all season for the 1st time in my life.

If you can AFFORD to go to Togwotee,.. I applaud you and love to see the pictures and hear
the stories,.. and daydream of being there with you.
If you get every weekend off and get the opportunity to trailer your sleds to the U.P. areas that
are smothered in beautiful neck deep snow,..ditto.
But for those who don't get but a teeny wheeny fraction of time off,...or can't get away,..for what
ever reason,... and LIVE in an area where S N O W is suppose to be "gimme" right out your front door
year to year and it isn't there,...
You bet! Let a LOT of whining begin.
Just as all the good stories,.... there are those of the ones that didn't,...
(I'll be going later because fortunately I don't have to trailer AS far as others,...)
BUT I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO,... Because in THIS area,... The winter WAS CRAPPY.

Hey Mezz,....
I'll drive you down to Kentucky just to WATCH your reaction when banjo boy
gets off the porch with his 10guage and asks "uh,..what u ridin' der yooper boy?"
"I'm a thinkin' I'm a needin' dat der snow thing to gets me down to papa's still"
"and you look mighty fine in dem fancy padded long johns!"
(now now,...I am just being neighborhood specific folks!!!!)

Time to belly up to the bar and listen to the fat lady sing,...
MY winter never came,... so it may as well be Spring!

2nd time in 50 years our clubs trails never opened down here. The last time it happened was only 3 years ago. Brutal.
