After my Army stint, I fell into a job that lasted 25 yrs. at one company. I was " The Phone Guy " installing/servicing/wiring business phone systems. IBEW Local 58. Got pushed out the door and just quit working at the young age of 50.
NOW - I'm " officially " retired and play Chords and party like a rock star with my fellow rock stars and groupies.

well I've had a few gigs over the years....started working on a dairy farm, then welded in the family business for many years...attended and completed MTU with a degree in Finance. Went back to welding, then got a job in banking in the late 90's. Currently, I'm the Head of the Trust and Financial Services area in which we manage about $550 Million....I love the job, but weirdly enough I miss welding.......

Well, really nothing now - retired in 2015 and spent a fortune to move into Grub’s gated community up north this summer.

Prior to retirement I taught Junior High School math for 9 years in GTL’s city (Inver Grove Heights, MN). Left teaching to become a “software guy” for 35 years, working on embedded computer software for several of the major defense contractors in the Twin City area. Kind of miss the work but don’t miss the commute or the crazy urban pace.

Agree that it’s really interesting seeing the variety of the work experiences of the members.

Add me to the manufacturing list although I have a number of titles which the one I spend the most time is Process Engineer but I also carry the responsibilities of Shift Supervisor and Process Engineering Leader which oversees all the CNC programming. I do miss the time when I was CNC programmer/machinist at which time I was also a Shift Supervisor. We make custom cutting tools for the machining industry.

so your name is forrest gump?

I'm a plant manager at a tool and die, welding and metal fabrication co. we can weld, form, saw, pem, rivet, shear, roll laser anything from the size of your thumb nail to as large as the space shuttle. make products for companies all over the US but bulk of business is in wis.

skylar: noticed you work at Wis. Built. if its the one in Deerfield we have a pretty big order running thru our shop for you guys as I type.

I have had many jobs. In 1982 I sailed with Jacque Cousteau on the Calypso. He promised me I could go diving with him but I only got to scrub barnacles off his crappy old boat so I quit. And to think John Denver wrote a song about that old scow. Then I got a job on the set of The Blue Lagoon. I was Christopher Atkin's stand in in the swimming scenes with Brooke Shields. Atkins was allergic to water and would break out in a rash when he brushed his teeth so swimming was out of the question for him. After that I hitchhiked around the country until I found a job driving a garbage truck in Roswell, New Mexico. I got lost lost on my way to the dump and I was low on gas so I just dumped a load of garbage out in the desert. I got fired from that job too. Somehow the garbage got famous though. Then I moved to Montana and became a dental floss farmer. I had a contract with Johnson and Johnson and sold them all my floss. This was going good but then the floss vermin set in and my floss was ruined. After that I invented 'The Grub Cube'. I made the mistake of getting drunk with some guy named Rubic and he stole my idea and got rich. I was pretty good at inventing stuff by now so I invented a magnet that picked up aluminum. I sold that to the KGB for 3 million dollars and am now retired.

I am a civil engineer working at a private engineering firm in the Chicago suburbs, doing general municipal transportation work for a variety of communities. I am the chief pothole designer for our company.

you didn't test the blend doors on dodge trucks did you??

No, but we probably build or have built the actuator drive motors which drive those blend doors, as well as the interior HVAC control panel (the actual cosmetic part with the knobs and buttons on it) which drives the actuator motors.

Is there 550 Mil IN the U.P.?

Quite a bit more than that......there are other firms like Jones and Ameriprise locally and they must have a couple of hundred Mill between them as well.

individual money, business money, municipal money, etc......trust me I was surprised as well when I started.

thanks,
