Just caught bits of snomobile accident in Rhinelander on TV. Several sleds involved on road but no details.
 
Breaking news: Authorities identify victim of Highway 8 snowmobile accident

Authorities have released the name of the man killed Friday when a vehicle collided with threee snowmobiles on Highway 8 East.

According to the Oneida County Sheriff's Department, a call came in at 12:59 a.m. Friday, Jan. 1, reporting a crash involving one vehicle and three snowmobiles on Highway 8 East just west of Haymeadow Road in the town of Pelican.

The operator of one of the snowmobiles, Rick A. Fedel, 41, of Pelican Lake, was killed.

The preliminary investigation has determined that there were six snowmobiles traveling east on the westbound shoulder of the highway. A westbound vehicle and three of the snowmobiles collided on the highway.

The operator of the vehicle, Charles A. Worden, 76, of Rhinelander, was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment for his injuries. The operator of a second snowmobile, James B. Fedel, 48, of Port Washington, was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital and later airlifted to Madison for treatment of his injuries.

The operator of a third snowmobile, Deborah A. Fedel, 49, of Port Washington, and a passenger, Julie J. Dornburg, 47, of Port Washington, were transported to St. Mary’s Hospital where they were treated and released.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Oneida County EMS, Town of Pelican Fire Department, and Rhinelander Fire Department assisted the Sheriff’s Office at the scene. The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, DNR, and the Oneida County Medical Examiner Office are continuing the accident investigation.
 
A 76 year old man out at 1 am just after New years eve hit three on side of road.
I wounder if Alcohol was involved on the with the man in the car.

This is why you dont ride sleds down the shoulder of the highway! I almost ran a guy over coming back from Eagle River races one year. Had my truck with the race trailer and the last guy in line veared out on the road and let off the gas, I stabbed the brakes as hard as I could but with a loaded 38' trailer you dont stop that fast. I had lost sight of him in front of my truck and the idiot must have finally heard the horn and hammered the gas...I thought he was a dead man!

the snowmobiles must have been lost and using their gps to get back to their lodging. old guy must have thought aliens surround
him ,prayers!! please be safe and stay off the major highways!
