What's It Gonna Be?

Dog photos, grandkid photos, can’t see too many. Love em’

I figured I would give it a few days and retry after my test post, this morning I tried signing on and it did not tell me my log in or password were incorrect but after a few tries it said i have tried multiple times and asked if I lost my password, I will try resetting it and see what happens

Brian, I wouldn’t reset your password, it will give you an error if your info is a mismatch. it’s just a quirk of the system right now. After your login attempt, move around the site a little, often when you bring up another page, it will show you as logged in. I’m sure this is number one on Gary’s list.

Discussion Board was unavailable again on Saturday & Sunday with the exception of a brief time early in the morning on Sunday. I would like to see the new site have a similar set up by way of topics & posting in a chronological order.

I was telling a couple of the guys that I bucked up for Norton’s tracker blocking capability and the first time I tried to get to the Discussion Board after activating it, it blocked 55 trackers just getting to the board.

At some point in the last few days, when the site was up, there were no members logged in and 851 guests. Anybody care to guess who those 851 “guests” were?

It might be a bit of adjustment getting used to the SnowTrailsUSA “rolling conversation” format, where a subject doesn’t persist in a static form in a queue, but it’s It’s fairly easy to follow and if you check in regularly, as a lot of you do, you can keep current on the conversations.

What I have seen people do in a format where you can’t create a title header for a post, is put a title in the post text. That way, if it’s a continuation of a previous post, people that have been following the conversation will recognize it as such. I think I’m going to start doing this with the Kawasaki project to identify project updates.

I think that as the post activity ramps up, we'll really start to get a feel for it.

Probably the same bots from here tracked us right to there.

I don't know if you mean the personal Norton or if you put it up on the site. But I do remember at one time John had used Norton on this site but he said it was too specific or too limiting or something and he switched to a different security for this site. Although this site could probably use a good Nortoning right now.

It would be nice if it could go in chronological order if possible. Sometimes there is a setting somewhere be it site wide or personal choice but I have not found it yet.

Sorry United, reading it back now, I guess I wasn't very clear on this. The trackers that were detected were on this board, not the SnowTrailsUSA board. It has yet to flag a tracker on the SnowTrailsUSA site. Thanks for making me clear this up.

This is my personal Norton account. I'm not sure of the options for a site-wide account or what the impact would be. I see more and more sites using front-end robot detection software (CAPTCHAs) to try to flush out robots when a site is accessed. How effective they are, I don't know but it seems like it would catch a lot of the less sophisticated robot programs.

From what I've seen on Gary's site, the posts are in chronological order, according to timestamp. What is different from what we're maybe used to here is that there is no list to identify the most recent comments or posts to any section. There may be a way but like everyone, I'm still learning.

I will say that the more I play around with Gary's site, the more I uncover. Tonight I discovered that if you select the three dots in the upper right corner of a post, you can bookmark that post and it gets placed in a bookmark list in your personal page. You can then follow along on all the comments and also continue to comment on the original post without having to search for it in the conversations. It will remain there until you remove it.

After you've bookmarked a post, to get to the bookmark list, go to the "Activity" section of your personal page, select the "More" icon, and then "Bookmarks" and viola! the post and current comments will be in the list. It's pretty cool if there is a post you're interested in that has a lot of comment activity.
