Which is the #1 owned and ridden sled manufacturer?

Gotta agree with that. after all, Kia sells a lot more cars than Maserati, but which would you rather drive?

Problem with this logic is Kia's and Maserati's are not the same price, or even in the same realm. Where as comparable sleds across all 4 manu's are

Ah............this stupid thread reminds me of a time drinking beer in a beer garden in Munich, Germany. My buddy was saying that women in German, overall are pretty ugly. I disagreed with him and thought there were plenty of good looking women. With both of use having an engineering background, and think, generally speaking, things are pretty black and white, put together a pretty basic system on rating women. We used a main walk way, and every women that went through there, we would rate on a scale of 1-10. Our 3rd buddy would keep track and after about 50 women or so, we would have an average.

You could do the same snobuilder. For a particular area, and particular time, watch ever sled that goes by, keep track and you would have your number from all the OEM's on the trail. To throw a little fuel on this fire, don't do it early in the morning, because you know it is only old guys that ride early, and they want to reliable sled, so they will be on the yamahas. Don't do it late at night, because those are all the guys on the green sleds racing from bar to bar. Can't do it too close to a boondocking area, otherwise you will miss all the RMK's. Ski doo riders always seem to be lost, but guessing those are mostly rental 600 carbs, so stay away from the rental towns. I would suggest 1 pm, near a bridge, not too close to a big city to have a good mix.

BTW - my buddy won. We averaged 6.3 out of 10. So not too good. And that was with many beers in the system fwiw.

Cheers.:stupid:

makes absolutely no sense,,,,what so ever

heres something to ponder....the top rentals sleds happen to be the cheapest costing and made sleds....the better sleds they DO NOT RENT to any jack nape and harry....so with that in mind...its CAT....the least renting one is the best one IMO....you aint getting an M1000 if your not tested and proved to be good rider....but my daughter could rent a doo anywhere by herself....nuff said....so don't get your chest all puffy just yet DOO BOYS....LMAO

When I was a kid (late 70s-early 80s) I lived on a lake, the snowmobile trail passed right by our house. I made a list of all the snowmobiles that came through. In the early 80s the Polaris Indy was by far the most common sled! I wish I still had that list!!!! Massey, Suzuki, Sno Jet, Scorpion, Rupp, Kawasaki, Sears, Skiroule, Evinrude, Moto-Ski, etc. there must have been 30+ different brands out there!! Amazing that we are down to 4 now.......

Pretty much the same as in the auto and motorcycle industry. 100's of brands in the infancy of the manufacturing. Whittled down to just a few, some 70 to 100 years down the line.

(copy and paste from Wikipedia )
There were over 1,800 automobile manufacturers in the United States from 1896 to 1930. Very few survived and only a few were started after that period.

Snobuilder agree to somewhat disagree with you. i think we ride / reside in the same area (Red Arrow, LMT, 100 Miler?) area and I do see far more Ski Doo's then Yamaha's, though I am surprised at the amount of Yamaha's. And yes, early in the morning you are correct; a lot of the old guys riding their Yamaha's especially during the week. Though in our area a ton of all sleds, by all 4 mnfg.

Seems to me that might have been around the time that there was only a Yamaha dealership in town. There had been a Arctic Cat, but at some point in the 90's it closed.
Now Chippewa Motors (the Yami dealer) sells Polaris also, but that's been pretty recent

I don't remember who the cat dealer was. Chippewa Motors sold only Yamaha at the time. I bought my first new sled from them, '93 Phazer II. Northstar was the Polaris dealer at the time.

We ride the same trails and we also run the NST to the UP quite a bit.....6% sales yet ridden way more than that percentage sez a lot to me. Also agree with the comments that the Poo XCs are still ridden and seen everywhere we ride....saw a bunch of SRX and SRVIPERS out there. The new Doos can't touch them on the lakes or twistys.

*Yawn* - Been a while since I stopped in here. Unfortunately picked this thread first and only got through the first few posts. Guess I'll check back in next year...

I'll leave this here:

A self-fulfilling prophecy is a prediction that directly or indirectly causes itself to become true, by the very terms of the prophecy itself, due to positive feedback between belief and behavior.

So ya snipped off the trailing square bracket on that formatting tag, eh?
Then the forum's parsing/formatting engine didn't recognize it as the end of the quotation. See what happens? :grief:

[SUP]"You buy 'em books, and buy 'em books, and all they do is eat the covers!"][/SUP]

If it was a properly formatted quote it would look like this:

What is the "top tear or true sledders" to you?
What is meant by "riding early in the day" opposed to other times of the day?

it means those that are out by 9 in by 5, on trail..dont think yammis have headlights..hahahahahahaha

- - - Updated - - -

Higher mile riders and when we get out between 8 and 9 AM,....some days, ALL we will see are yam 4 strokes....could just be us older folks wanting to get back for the early bird special.

so ur saying ur an old man..brohan?

It sure isn't Ski-Doo.
Renters sleds equal 0, squat, zip, zero in this equation.
Riding WI and the UP away from sled rental hot spots and the truth about what true sledders ride is evident.
Yamaha dominates when compared to sled sales stats.
All brands have a good showing but you would NEVER know by counting that statistics wise, Doo is #1.
Riding early in the day I see the Yamahas dominate.
To me they are the top tear of true sledders.
6% sales = 30% ridden, easily
Stuff it Doocult....LOL

I'm with you and you're #1 in my book. Yamaha will always be the best in class....no matter what. Ski-Doo will always suck and so will their riders. Just the way it is. Ride till I die and ride early because that's what it's about.
