Hey y'all are on a roll here (a dinner roll? :)), this discussion is on track to beat the "Paulding Light" thread as the longest thread on the board!
<hr size="2" width="75%">I have to tell ya I learned a thing or two about portion control while in the hospital cardiac care ward for a week last fall. (Actually fairly decent victuals in a hospital, how about that!) I was astonished at the fact that I could have much smaller portions and not be hungry shortly after. I also refuse to give up ice cream, but I have discovered that it is possible to satisfy the craving with a small (½ cup) portion, while anything more amounts to gluttony. Hey it's working, I've lost 20 pounds so far (of course the cardiac rehab program & exercise helped too); now to see if I can knock off a 'nuther 20 and get back to my "fightin' weight" of 175-185! :)

We also used to have a brilliant, creative chef, Jeff Beeson, who had a small restaurant (Convivo) in a nearby strip mall in Phoenix from 2001-2005. Incredibly creative menu options, all very pleasing to both the eye and palate, relatively small portions, almost in the French style, but with a unique southwestern theme; extremely pleasant and satisfying fare, yet no need to forgo appetizers or desert, and no "doggy bag" needed! Also no need to loosen da belt, or use a "tummy sling" as you stagger to the car after the meal, just a very pleased, satisfied feeling.

This was the antithesis of the Claim Jumper experience, where they almost have to bring your dinner, in Fred Flintstone portions, to the table in a wheelbarrow! Oink!

Jeff Beeson was a brilliant rising star in the restaurant business. A whole bunch o' "chefs" could have learned a lot from him! I'm so sorry we lost him at such an early age!

The family thread will never be beet [sic]. were [sic] over 32,000 posts...
"The family thread will never be beet [sic]."
Okay, if not beet, how about asparagus? :)
(Now y'all will accuse me of "casting asparagus" [aspersions]!)

"… were [sic] over 32,000 posts"
You were? Wa hoppen, didja lose some? :)

Actually I think your "over 32,000 posts" refers to several (many!) threads, not just one, as if that matters.

Tired of the same old thing?
The wife has a ton of recipes off the internet.
We sit down and make a week long menu together and
vary my grillen and her sauteing, make a grocery list and go to town to the
store once a week. We do a lot of chicken and turkey things.
I am learning to use a wok on the grill and you can mix it up with one.
Its a low oil way of making things crisp.

We have the same problem here. We both cook, depends who is home first.

So this winter... I made a list of everything we like/know how to make. It started as maybe 30 things, hang it on the frig, and add to it as we think of it. Now it's 60 or more things on it.

For a while we made a check next to it after, and went through the whole list a few times.
It's easier to pick when it's all listed out in front of you.

I am starting to feel like I need to learn how to boil water. You guys cook? My Mothers side all had restaurants. I eat and say, "Thank you!" then nap. lol. I have no clue to cooking and feel I never will need this Knowledge as long as there are "drive thru" windows. You do what you do best, and I will do what I do best and I do tip!

agreed pr1 we should just be happy we're eating! No land of drive thru's up here we have to cook. The suggestions on here are really helpful we're using one this week. We made the week long list its on the fridge and we'll see how it goes. And I'm gonna talk to Bear about the tipping a little better too ;)

And for guys that don't cook (pr1) you should learn to cook something. My father in law never cooked a day in his life and when his wife passed away he was lost couldn't even boil water. Hard to teach an old dog new tricks! So I cooked for him for the next 11 years, never really thought that was something I'd be doing, but you do what you have to do. So try to learn how to cook something in the long run it could make your kids very happy! Ok I'm off my soap box...

Speaking of tipping. I tried that one also. One day when "Cindy's Kitchen" was open which is everyday husband came in and asked whats for lunch. I asked him what do you
want and I got the same old answer. I don't know and I don't care. I fixed him something to eat. Don't remember what it was and I made him out a bill and gave it to him. I had put on the bottom $5.00 tip. Well guess what he said he already paid for the food so he wasn't going to pay again and then he said everytime I take money and
to go out for lunch with my friends and do all my running around for fun that is my tip beings I don't work. Oh well. Gotta love em anyway. Looking forward to the fresh fish tonight.
