Lehto's on 2 just outside Ignace, closed in winter though. Poorboy in Mcmillan used to be great too, but no longer in business I'm pretty sure.

I haven't had 1 from Henry's in Rockland but I'm guessing they would be great as the rest of thier food is. Maybe I'll try 1 from them this weekend and find out, will let you know if I do and how it was.

If you're heading to the Keweenaw, I like all of these:

Krupp's in Twin Lakes

Roy's Bakery in Houghton

Toni's in Laurium

The Keweenaw Coop in Hancock has pretty good Bison pasties

In order to do a good job with this vote you have to have had them all over the Upper...otherwise how can you say?

I can tell you that the Marquette Mining Journal just had a pasty survey and if you check the on-line paper, you probably can find the results....tho it is probably a popularity contest rather than one where flavor is important.

And NO self respecting Yooper would buy a pasty that doesn't contain good old rutta beggas in there. It is what make the flavor come out.

And for crying out loud....you have been going to the YOOOPEEE for how long and haven't tried the pasties yet??? What are you a communist???

I would NEVER admit that on this forum....ever!

Lawry's has never let me down....has a good turn over of product and never had a bad one come out of the shop. Now THAT is important!

I agree. I wasn't attempting to answer "who makes the best pasty in the UP", just offering some suggestions for "good" pasties in the Keweenaw.

My moms are the best (but we dont get them very often).

As for purchased ones, I have had them all, Krupps is number 1. After that it is a tie for EconoFoods (suprisingly) and Amy J's on the curve in Hancock.

All others are good, these stand far ahead of the pack.

In most of the stores around here there is a frozen pasty. I had one once thinking it would be like a pot pie for quality. They were actually darn good too.

Pasties

Well I am biased but my moms, she is Cornish and learned her pasty skill from her mom who came from Cornwall back in the early 1900s, Slim's Cafe, Mohawk Superette and Jims Pizza offer a great pasty that are delicious and bring your appetite cause you get a whopper at any of these venues. Just my 2 cents.

I have had Henrys pasty before and it is pretty good. But I would not call it the best in the UP. Ive been to some pretty small, not very nice looking places up there before, mom and pop types, and let me tell ya, there are some pretty darn good pastys, and food, in the places you wouldnt really expect it. Just look for a small mom and pop type place. Pasties is my only food group when Im in the yoop.
