Who worked on their sleds this weekend?

So yeah it was hot out this weekend and all I could think of was snow and sleddin. Took the sleds out this weekend, started them up and smelled the sweet smell of fogging oil and two stroke. Pissed off the neighbors with the foggy exhaust. Meh. Put new carb boots on the soon to be wife's sled and put my Pilot skis on hers while my new Curve XS skis went on mine. Put trailer glides and track mats on my new trailer, and installed reeds and a new silencer on my sled. This new SPI silencer is going to be really sound sensitive but it still has got that snarly two stroke crackle which is what I was going for along with the weight savings. It was a good weekend for sleds. Now if it would start getting back to fall in the temps department that would be great.

We are planning on going to the Snow SHow next wknd in Milwaukee though. Snow will get here soon enough.

I've done lots of stuff between end of last winter and now

new slides, new track, C&A pro ski's, 3 new bogey bearings paint handlebars and riser, put handlebar hook on, put handlebar grab bar on, new chaincase oil, grease up whole sled, re-gear sled from 24/40 to 23/40, clean carbs and re-jet richer (i know i know), paint exhaust, put new clutch spring in and clean clutch, paint the whole suspension, new exhaust manifold gaskets, new polaris racing snow flap, and overall just clean the whole dang thing. (i may have missed a few things)

Then lastly, check out the clutch spring i got to take out of my sled. I never knew it was broke!

Last thing to do is a new belt.

I just drove my sled down into my shed today...

Oh yeah, and add me some stickers :)

Yep this was working on the sleds weekend #1. Pulled out all 4, washed and waxed all four, started them up, checked them over. Found one dead battery on son's Vector, dead idlers on Vector too (stock idlers are really poor quality!). Wife's Polaris 600 has a minor antifreeze leak from last January's top-end rebuild so that one goes back to dealer since they did the origanal work. The oldest and highest mileage sled, the 2000 Polaris 600 XC SP with over 5000 miles, started right up and ran flawlessly.....go figure. I spent time in the spring going over my Rage (all new idlers, new chaincase bearings, etc) so it's ready to rock.

This week I to order pieces and parts. Working on the sleds weekend #2 is early November and that is when everything gets wrapped up. Then we wait for the snow to fly.

We also went to the Hastings Snow Show Friday night as a warm-up. Not many people were there and some vendors were just arriving. Got 10% off on some Castle gear, new jacket for me and new jacket and boots for my son, the deals were OK but nothing great.

I like to take a first pass at stuff in Mid-October so I have time to order and fix. Looks like that will pay off this year! Oh and the fogging oil burning off mixed with 2 stroke smelled pretty good too!

Had to laugh - not my day.

I had to laugh when I was the topic. Yesterday was just one of those days.

I noticed a flat on the trailer (2 place clamshell) a couple of weeks ago. No problem. I was going to replace the tires anyway.

Yesterday I go the the storage place to put the trailer on jack stands and pull off the wheels. Planning to pull the tires, repaint the rims, and then get new tires put on.

First, I can't loosen the top two lug nuts on the first wheel because it sits too low with the flat. I can't get leverage. Darn!

I try rolling the trailer back to get the lugs to the bottom but can't roll it with the flat (sleds are in the trailer). No problem, I'll hitch it to the truck and move it. Get the hitch lined up, start cranking down the front swivel jack and feel the internal gears let go. Now it is stuck in the "up" position. Crud!

OK. I'll have to get another front jack. In the mean time, I'll just jack up the back of the trailer to move the rim to get the lugs loose, and at least get the wheels pulled. My hydraulic jack pumps up about 1/3 of the way and then quits! Won't work any more. Cr@p!

I thought about getting the factory jack out of the truck to give it another go and decided it just wasn't my day. Headed home to watch the Bengals give away a game, and then listen to the Reds get eliminated from the playoffs. Definitely not my day!

I'll try again next Sunday...

Got mine out. Lubed, washed, and installed a new skid plate on my switchback. I wasn't expecting it to be 90 degrees and sweating my butt off while doing this. But, now they are ready to ride!
