Why Do You Ride?

I know the answer to this question is different for everyone since trail riding & powder sledding is entirely different types of snowmobiling as well as different types of people with differing interests. For me I'm a long distance power cruiser with a need for speed but a Yamaha 4s with EPS has brought me back to the challenge of the twistys where it all began many years ago. The straight line lake blast has lost it's luster just don't care to do that anymore. I like being outside in winter & everything about snow except when it melts. Looking at scenery is aok but living up north for 10 years all the trees are starting to look the same. I still get a kick out wrenching on my sled for handling performance no engine stuff thus the 4s likeability. Hanging with riding buds is a good thing but that can get complicated so I'm riding with or without buds. So I guess it boils down to I just like riding snowmobiles fast & getting the most out of my sled handling wise on trails & FRs. How about you?

I like exploring new trails, the ability to cross private property that nobody but snowmobilers are allowed on, seeing what's hiding in the back of farmers' fields, seeing wildlife, not having limits on how fast I can go, crossing bridges in the middle of nowhere, blasting across lakes, planning loop routes so I never backtrack and sharing all of the above with new people.

exploring new places.
hanging with the boys after riding
I have lost all interest in trail riding . it is crazy I lived for long distance backpack trips going places I have never been now U could not pay me to put on a 500mi long weekend.
sold my trail sled this yr was thinking about buying a new one but the only reason I can come up with to do it is I have always had one and my wife needs something to ride the 1 trip a yr she will go on.
I also have lost all taste for drag sleds that is a good thing don't like to think about all the cash I have blown on that 7 yr stint. I still do enjoy a run down a 660ft shaved ice track on some one else's ride just could care less about the endless tuning tweaks for 1/4 sled length.
I live for the snow over the hood the adrenalin of a dire consequence if u blow a certain side hill or climb. I am sure something else will peek my enthusiasm some day but now only thing that will get me out of the house is exploring the deep woods

To get the **** away from the wife! Oh, sorry, just being real. For me it's everything already mentioned + those stops in remote areas. Sitting there knowing the fact that not many have ever been there (nor ever will). The risk/ thrill of knowing that if you were to have a problem at that very moment, you could be in some pretty big trouble (as long as it doesn't actually happen, it's fun to ponder). Pretty cool when you stop and think about it and know that you made it back.

A lot of reasons to ride come to mind. Scenery, the solitude of the woods when you stop and just listen to nature with no one else around. The comradery of our group when we're riding and the planning of trips. The ability to go where only a few others can travel during the winter months. Honestly, I tell others that question my sanity, I do it because I can...and it gets me out of the house during the darkest of winter months. Otherwise I'd be complaining about the weather as much as anyone else on this frozen planet.

Lastly, this would be a good time to thank my spouse for allowing me to snowmobile. She doesn't mind when I'm out there most of the weekend or late getting home from a trip. Thanks Dear, it means a lot to me.

Uncle had first sled in 65? I got started myself in 71. Been at it all this time, and still can't get enough! Trips, scenery, trails, or deep, it's all good. Have always loved the winters, and all the season offers.

Never even saw a sled in person until about '95......a good friend had been after me for years to come visit the U.P......my reply was a consistent "ANFW"........then they moved here in '94 so we HAD to come for a visit......then twice the next year......then bought the house the year after.......I was always into motorsports so sledding came almost as 2nd nature.......minus the morons around you when riding a street bike.......OH there's plenty of idiots, but you're on an even footing with them, not spotting them a couple thousand pounds of metal..........

PURE FUN!! We love winter. Can't stand anything over 75 degrees. Did the ice fishing thing (and still do once and awhile) but that got old. Still LOVE fishing, but the thrill of having 130hp+(163 now) under the push of my thumb and the lifting of my ski's and leaning into the corner then squeezing my thumb again..... MAN THAT'S LIVING!!! Plus all the new friends from the club,I could go on and on but you get what I mean.

It's just a way of living for me. I was born into snowmobiling. I've been on a sled my entire life.I don't know any other way. I don't put many miles on anymore, but it's improving. My boys are getting older and more interested in the sport. Hopefully I can give them the same love of the sport that my dad did for me.

Also, I love winter and summer sucks. I can live with below zero temps, I shut down when it's hot.

I love the buildup to a big trip, working on the sleds, chatting about where we are going and even the drive up. Seeing new places that you basically cant get to during the summer months. The ability to hop on a sled and go for an hour cruise to grab a bite to eat and meet new people who love the same thing you do. I love the feel of being deep in the woods, no life worries (minus breaking down) and its just you and your sled, either pushing it hard or just relaxing and cruising. Also, opening up our cabin in the winter with no one in site, unlike summer where every cabin is occupied!

i like to ride cause i like fix'n shyt all the time....and when im not fix'n my own shyt, i like to fix friends shyt....

In 1969 we got our 1st sled and it was the most fun that I had ever had and you know what it still is today theres nothing better than riding in 2'-3' of fresh powder or for that matter running the trails with the family and friends stopping to roast hotdogs, playng on the logging roads, racing on the lake to me its still just as fun.

I think everything has been said in previous posts, but its just because its all i know to do in the winter! Its in my blood and nothing makes me happier then being on the sled with friends/family!

I just think it is so beautiful to be out. Whether it be forest or the corn fields, or swamps, I love being able to see and go places where roads and warm weather don't allow. And it doesn't apply just to snowmobiling, same with skiing and biking and walking. Not to mention there are no Mosquitos when you are out in the deep woods.

I too have a couple of reasons. One is the freedom of carving un touched powder, another the adventure, getting to my off trail destinations are only 1/2 of the battle. I have been trying to get to a couple of places for a couple of years and I have had a lot of fun getting there. Finally I like the fact that I can't hear my cell phone ring... lol my voice mail box has been full since island park
