why put signs up?

not going to stick up for the dumbasses that cause these problems, just saying it has been going on since the first snowmobile trail opened up decades ago. Is it worse now? Of course. There are many, many more snowmobiles and riders than there were years ago. The percentage of those who cause you the trouble? The same. Just more riders. Just saying, linking this all to "the next generation" is a bunch of crap. My dad's generation was far more wild, crazy, and disrespectful as young adults than my generation. And my kid's generation? Are you telling me they can get away with what my generation got away with? Not with everything being followed and scrutinized now on the internet.

So, to summarize: are there more disrespectful hellions out there than before? By percentage, no. Are there more sleds out there now? Yes. If 100 sleds went by in a day 30 years ago and 1 % of them didn't follow the signs, 1 person went off the trail. If 1000 sleds go by today and 1% of them don't follow the signs, 10 of them go off of the trail. So, lay off of the new generation crap. You all were just as much a bunch of sh#$heads as the last generation and the next generation when you were that age.

The problem isn't going away, ever. Better find something else to bitch about.

X2 Agree with this always be people that don't follow the rules young, old or in between. Sucks but true statement & no use laying it on the younger generation.IMO

The entitled generation? Seems like some riders live for the moment and don't care about the consequences. I also wonder how much of it comes from the instant information age. They can find out where the snow is at a moments notice, drop & ride and tear it up figuring that they may never ride that area again.
Reading skills are lacking on here also. Reread my OP about the entitlement generation guys. Note the question mark. It was a question. And who is bitching! I'm just pushing buttons its more fun.;)

my philosophy is to treat everything like i would want my stuff treated. So, pick up your garbage on the trail, stay off private property, let faster riders pass, pass others only when they know your behind them, basically use common sense and have fun.

Dont most state have a TIP hotline, Turn In a Poacher. I understand trespassing isn't poaching, but the call goes right to the DNR.

Here in unincorporated Walworth County we've been told to call the county Sheriff for trespassing as soon as possible. The more people that call, the easier it is to track them and hopefully catch them. They also monitor the trail hotline number so they are up to date on whether trails are open or closed. Trespassing has become a real problem and they take it very seriously. Many are snowmobilers and they want to preserve the sport too.
PS, trails are still closed here.

Seems like we might have been better off when loud pipes were the mark of the idiot rather than the current off-trail wannabee trend. I said it in another thread - there's gotta be a way to make the sleds more identifiable - larger registrations??? - or otherwise increase the trespassing fines substantially - such as 2nd time you are caught off trail, you lose your sled. Time to really enforce property rights. Everyone knows that closed trails are not re-opened, and there are only so many trails.

In my experience you come up to tracks off trail & you go "Oh crap" but no sleds to be seen. Maybe they do it at night don't know?

I for one don't want a giant banner on the side of my sled displaying my registration number just because a few douchebags can't seem to comprehend where the trail is......I say you're more on track with the huge fine angle.

we need the step program to go though ! that means all snowmobilers need to join a club so we all understand what we go though to make trails happen. I think education is the thing we need the most

They know to stay on marked trails but don't care. Can't educate people that don't care. Maybe Dane closing will affect riders enough to get the picture of the dmage they do for all of us.:(

The CAP/STEP will not educate anyone on what we do. But it would generate more money from the freeloaders that don't care what it takes to get trail open. If a trail closes here the freeloaders go somewhere else, they don't care. But start to take a little extra of their money, then we would here the crying.

This is exactly what I was afraid of when everybody starts screaming more enforcement is the answer. I agree its a major problem. I also agree theses knuckleheads are ruining it for everyone. But crying to Johnny Law about it just makes it worse for everyone. The first time you pull off the side of a trail to take a leak, and mr DNR jumps out of the woods and slaps you with a $400 dollar fine, you'll know what I'm talking about.

Can't complain lots of revenue for the taking. If you are not doing anything wrong nothing to worry about. A hassle yes but at least riding good snow.:)
